The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is a sports bike manufactured by Bajaj Auto. It is currently the largest model in the Pulsar lineup and is positioned in the Indian two-wheeler market alongside competitors such as the Triumph Speed 400, TVS Apache RTR310, and Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.
History
editThe NS400Z project emerged from the KTM-Bajaj partnership, which led to the development of the KTM Duke 390 and RC390 motorcycles. At the 12th Auto Expo in 2014, Bajaj unveiled the Pulsar CS400 concept[2], which was powered by a derivative of the Bajaj-KTM 373 cc engine from the Duke 390. The CS400 was initially expected to be released as the NS400, while its faired counterpart, the SS400[3], was anticipated to debut as the RS400 at a later stage.
TThe CS400 eventually launched as the Dominar 400. Due to limited commercial success, plans for the faired counterpart were shelved.
In April 2024, Bajaj teased the development of the NS400Z through its social media channels. Following multiple leaks and sightings[4], the NS400Z was officially introduced on 3 May 2024 at a launch price of ₹1.85 lakh (US$2,200) ex-showroom.
Design and Features
editThe Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is designed as a naked streetfighter motorcycle. It has a short wheelbase and a suspension system configured for handling and stability. The engine is a BS6-compliant 373.3 cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder unit that produces 40.3 PS of power and 35 Nm of torque[1].
The motorcycle is equipped with an electronically controlled throttle and offers four riding modes: Road, Sport, Rain, and Off-road. These modes modify settings such as ABS sensitivity and Throttle response. The model also includes a switchable traction control system.
The instrument cluster comprises an inverted color LCD panel that displays key information such as the tachometer, speedometer, and fuel gauge, alongside call and message alerts. A dot-matrix multi-function display adjacent to the panel allows riders to manage features such as Bluetooth connectivity, ride modes, and trip meters. Additional data such as battery voltage and service intervals are also available. Controls for these features are located on the handlebars.
The NS400Z has a single-piece headlight incorporating LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and a central LED projector. It is available in four colors: Ebony Black, Glossy Racing Red, Metallic Pearl White, and Pewter Grey.
