The Armenian Volunteer Network (AMVN) is a non-profit organization founded in 2020 by educators from the United States and Armenia. The organization aims to enhance educational opportunities in Armenia and foster international collaboration between Armenian communities and global educators.

Overview

edit

AMVN's mission is to promote knowledge exchange, cultural understanding, and professional development among educators, students, and professionals. The organization places international and local volunteers in Armenian schools, universities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to share expertise and support educational initiatives.

Headquartered in Kansas City, USA, and Yerevan, Armenia, AMVN serves both local and diaspora communities worldwide.

History

edit

The Armenian Volunteer Network was co-founded by Hasmik Torosyan, Seroj Terian, and Kristine Ananyan Terian. It was established to address gaps in educational opportunities in Armenia while creating avenues for cultural and professional exchange.

Programs

edit

AMVN offers various programs focused on educational and professional development:

  • TESOL Program: Aimed at supporting Armenian English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers, this program includes courses and workshops led by experts like TESOL Program Director Astghik Altunyan.
  • C++ Programming Classes: These courses introduce Armenian students to foundational programming concepts, focusing on one of the most widely used programming languages.
  • Educational Lectures and Workshops: AMVN organizes professional development sessions on pedagogy, teaching strategies, and specialized subjects for educators in Armenia.
  • Junior Program: Designed for younger students, this program provides tailored online and in-person classes delivered by trained volunteers.[1]

Volunteer Opportunities

edit

AMVN recruits and trains volunteers from Armenia and abroad to contribute to its initiatives. Volunteers often participate in teaching, curriculum development, and cultural exchange programs. They also have opportunities to explore Armenia through organized excursions that highlight the country’s historical and cultural heritage.
