Angry Birds Journey, previously titled Angry Birds Casual during soft launch,[1] is a 2022 casual puzzle mobile game developed and published by Rovio Entertainment for Android and iOS mobile devices. The twenty-fourth mainline game in the Angry Birds series, it is based on older entries whilst also being heavily redesigned and updated.[2][3]
Gameplay
editAngry Birds Journey has a level-based progression system with multiple areas per level. The player has a finite amount of randomly-selected birds, each with unique abilities, which are launched via a slingshot at structures containing pigs similar to the older games in the series. Structures now contain hatchlings trapped in cages, ice balloons, bouncy blocks, pairs of fireflies which must be reunited, and Mystery Boxes. Each area has a certain objective required to complete the area which includes popping every pig, freeing every hatchling, and/or reuniting every firefly. Every time a block is destroyed, a meter located at the top left is filled. When the meter is full, the player can choose to increase the power of their next bird's ability.
Release
editIn March of 2020, Journey was first soft launched under the title Angry Birds Casual on the App Store in Finland, Poland and Sweden, although it was temporarily delisted in December that year due to it being rebranded as Angry Birds Journey.[4] One month later on January 14, 2021, the game was fully released for the first time in the same set of countries as well as Denmark and Canada, and in the United Kingdom in August of that year. Angry Birds Journey was made available worldwide on January 20, 2022. After its launch, the game would continue to receive post-launch updates that would introduce new levels and game modes among other additions.[5]
Reception

Angry Birds Journey has received generally mixed reception since its release.[6] It has been praised for its simplicity and addictiveness, but has also been criticised for its heavy uses of features commonly found in most mobile games such as stamina, grinding, and microtransactions.[7][8][9]
