"One" or "1" was an original San Francisco rock band formed in 1968 in Bolinas, California that was discovered by Paul Kantner and Grace Slick when they moved to the small Marin County beach town to raise their newly born daughter China where the band was based. In 1970, Paul paid for a demo for the band; but, soon convinced them to wait to join his own soon-to-be-formed label, RCA Grunt Records [1] that was still in the negotiating stage. The band signed the contract with manager Bill Thompson at The Trident in Sausalito in 1971, and the album titled "Come" was recorded at Wally Heider's Studio A in San Francisco and in Paul and Grace's backyard facing the ocean in Bolinas and released 6 months later with the single "Free Rain."
