Doris Ríos is a human rights activist in particular working for the indigenous people in Costa Rica. She was awarded the International Women of Courage Award in 2023. [1][2]
Life
editRíos is a member of the Cabécar people[1] who are said to be the largest indigenous group in Costa Rica. There are estimated to be 17,000 of them.[3]
The indigenous people are attacked and Ríos has noted that although complaints are made to the authorities little seems to be done.[4] Ríos has won an international award for her work.[5]
