The song explores the narrator's school girl crush on the lead singer of Van Halen, David Lee Roth, also known as Diamond Dave.
Music video
editThe music video was directed by Inara George's husband, Jake Kasdan. The director of photography was Brian Burgoyne.[1] The video shows the duo holding casting auditions for "Diamond Dave". The actors auditioning for the role include Eric Wareheim, Simon Helberg and Ken Jeong. Near the end, as George dates Jeong, she walks up to a top hat that a David Lee Roth impersonator left to her. When she picks up the hat, a note under the hat reads “David Lee Roth 2008 Hell Yeah! Nothin’ But Yeah!”
