Clauneck (also called Chaunta, Elantiel, Claunt and Claunth) is a daemon appearing in the grimoires Key of SolomonGrimorium Verum and Dictionnaire Infernal.

In Key of Solomon, the earliest known text in which he appears (18th century), his name is rendered as "Claunth", and he is said to be able "to give wealth, and to take it away". The book goes on to describe a ritual by which one invokes him alongside Lucifer to magically transform slips of parchment into gold coins.[1]

Clauneck makes his most famous appearance in the Grimorium Verum, known from French and Italian copies dating from the 19th century.[2] He's one of the eighteen Servitors of Syrach, and is said to be well loved by Lucifer; he is, usually, summoned for his ability to bestow wealth, either by bringing money over a great distance or by assisting in the discovery of hidden treasures. Clauneck is the demon of wealth, known to be obedient to his summoners, but only to those who show him the proper respect.[3]

Magic Rituals

edit

The rituals for summoning him often involve specific invocations, sigils, and offerings, depending on the tradition being followed.

Sacred Space: Create a quiet, undisturbed area for the ritual. Purify the space by burning incense like sandalwood or frankincense. An altar with symbols of wealth—such as coins, gold items, or green candles—can be beneficial.

Mental Clarity: Engage in meditation to clear your mind and focus your intentions. Approach the ritual with respect and a clear purpose, understanding the responsibilities that come with invoking such entities.

Sigil Creation: Obtain or draw Clauneck's sigil, a symbolic representation used to establish a connection with him.

Invocation: Recite an invocation to Clauneck, clearly stating your intentions and the assistance you seek. Maintain a respectful and sincere tone throughout.

Offerings: Present offerings that symbolize wealth, such as coins or other valuable items, to honor Clauneck and express your commitment.

Focus and Meditation: Concentrate on the sigil and meditate, visualizing your financial goals and the pathways to achieving them.

Closing the Ritual: Thank Clauneck for his presence and assistance. Properly close the ritual to ensure a respectful conclusion.

While Clauneck is believed to open opportunities, it is up to the individual to act upon them. Do not expect the entity to do all the work; your efforts are essential in manifesting the desired outcomes. Be mindful of the ethical implications of your requests. Seeking wealth should not come at the expense of others.[4]

Disclaimer: Engaging in occult practices carries inherent risks and should be approached with caution. Ensure you are fully informed and prepared before attempting any ritual. For further guidance, consider consulting experienced practitioners or reputable sources within the occult community.

Modern Interpretations

edit
  • Clauneck appears in the video game Cult of the Lamb in the form of a duck, providing the protagonist with upgrades.
  • The 2020 concept album Indwell by metalcore project Methwitch tells the story of a man summoning Clauneck, but accidentally instead opening a portal for demons who then slowly torture him to death.
  • In contemporary occult practices, Clauneck is sometimes invoked in chaos magic or ceremonial magic for goals related to abundance, prosperity, and financial stability. Modern practitioners may view him as an archetype or symbolic representation of these forces rather than a literal being.
