Area 9 is a township located in the capital city of Lilongwe, Malawi.[1] Area 9 is situated in the heart of Lilongwe, approximately 3 kilometers from the city center.[2] It is bordered by the Lilongwe River to the north and the Area 10 township to the south.[3][4]

History

Area 9 was established in the 1970s as a residential area for low- to middle-income families. During the colonial era, it was a settlement for African civil servants and businessmen. After Malawi gained independence in 1964, Area 9 experienced rapid growth and development, becoming a hub for commercial and social activities.[5][4]
