Afroz Alam Sahil (born Afroz Alam; 28 February 1987) is an Indian journalist and author. He is an editor at BeyondHeadlines.[1]

He received more than 20 awards, felicitations, and fellowships including World Health Organization's Road Safety Journalism Fellowship, Ministry of Culture (India)'s Junior Research Fellowship, and Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions’s RTI Fellowship.[2]

Sahil has authored six books and translated one.[3] As a freelance journalist, his articles have been published in prominent media outlets including BBC Hindi,[4] Daily Sabah,[5] The Wire (India),[6] The Times Group,[7] Middle East Monitor,[8] Hindustan Times,[9] National Herald,[10] The Quint,[11] The Print,[12]ABP News,[13] Navjivan (newspaper),[14] American Kahani.[15] and Pravakta.[16]

Early life and education

Sahil[17] was born in Bettiah in West Champaran district of Bihar. He completed his schooling from Raj Inter College & Gulab Memorial College in Bettiah. Later he moved to Delhi for higher studies. He graduated from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He completed his Postgraduate education in Mass Communication from A.J.K. Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia.[18][19]

Career

Sahil started his career as a reporter with Hindustan Express (Urdu daily) and Hindustan (newspaper) as a freelancer. After that, he worked with TV9 MUMBAI and UNI TV as a special correspondent and RTI desk in charge.[20] He also worked for Two Circles[21] as Roving reporter. After that, he worked for BeyondHeadlines[22] as an editor (investigation). For over ten years, he has been a regular columnist for The Inquilab and has contributed to BBC Hindi[23] as an outside contributor.
