History
editThe company was founded in 1991 by banker and entrepreneur Jorge Lankenau. In 1994, it was selected to be the official apparel supplier for the Mexico national football team.[2]
Between 1991 and 1999, the company would go on to be the official sponsor for C.F. Monterrey, C.D. Guadalajara, Tecos F.C., and Tigres UANL. They would also become the official sponsor for the national teams for Guatemala and Venezuela.
The company is best known for supplying the jerseys for the Mexican national team for the 1998 FIFA World Cup which today is still a sought after piece of apparel.[3]
After 2000, Aba Sport didn't sponsor any sports team due to the negative image of the owner. As a result, the company lost most of its business. Today, the company mainly reissues retros of their old jerseys.[1]
