- 23 October – The 7.1 Mw Van earthquake shook eastern Turkey with a maximum Mercalli intensity of VIII (Severe). More than 600 were killed and 4,152 were injured.
- Undated — Turkey became the world’s largest refugee host after 2.6 million people enter Turkey from Syria following the start of the Syrian civil war.[1]
