WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

maltodextrin article is self-inconsistent

At the beginning, it says that maltodextrin is moderately sweet to almost flavorless. Later on it says maltodextrin is flavorless. They can't both be right. MeanStandev (talk) 07:21, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Suggested change to South Beach Diet introduction

Hello, I've been here before about the South Beach Diet article, and I'd like to see if someone here is interested in reviewing a fairly narrow suggestion, to replace the introduction's second paragraph (just one sentence) with a slightly longer paragraph. (Worth noting: I am working as a consultant on behalf of the company that publishes the books, so I won't be making any direct changes to the article myself.) I'd previously discussed this with a couple of other editors, however they seem to be busy with other things. With a week gone by, I'd be appreciative if someone else would consider it. Here is a direct link to the proposed change, and previous conversation can be found by scrolling up from there. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 22:33, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

I posted on that talk page. There is a lot of text there. Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:34, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Welcome new user

Hello, would anyone in this project please welcome and comment on the work of a new user, Soloway80? This person participated in several weeks of Wikipedia training with me and edited the article on Junk Food. Here is a sample contribution they made. I would be appreciative of any encouragement that anyone could give to this person. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:42, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Ina Garten FAR

I have nominated Ina Garten for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:57, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Article Face Lift

I have given the article List of coffee varieties a major facelift and I have addressed several of the issues mentioned in its talk page.

What needs to happen next with that article as far as addressing its issues? (I'm new to Wiki).

Also, I would like to replace the current image on that article with one. I have explicit permission from Cafe Imports to use the unedited version of that image in a Wiki article. However, I don't have access yet to upload images. Do I wait until I have that access or can an admin assist me with adding the image?

Thanks!

List of Indian spices

I came here after seeing "... non-English content" being added while 'patrolling' at 'New editors' contribs'. When I checked it out I saw that it was List of Indian spices and it had lots of translations of various spices in numerous Indic languages. So no problem with the addition of "non-English content".

However, the page only has one source, and none of the translations are sourced. I have tagged it for ref-improvement. I see that just above some IP editors have also mentioned the lack of sources and noted that some translation are incorrect. Correction that was at Talk:List of Indian spices#Regarding language equivalents. It is possible that there are suitable references on the pages of the individual spices.

It seems that this page is rather 'quiet' and many message from this year appear unanswered, to so I'm just wondering if this is the best place to comment or at WikiProject India? - 220 of Borg 04:41, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Sourcing for File:Improved no2 Wagon.jpg

This file does not seem to have a source. I would think this is public domain ({{PD-1923}}), but that cannot be established with certainty. Google Images didn't turn up anything useful, and none of the historical documents on http://www.cretors.com/ (under "Company") match. I was wondering if this WikiProject could help. User:Zigzig20s/Windmill Organics

Hello. I have realized that most of the food I buy at Whole Foods or Infinity Foods in the UK is sold under the 'Biona Organics' brand, which is apparently made by Windmill Organics. I think it would be good to have an article about them because the company was created in 1978 apparently and they really do sell a lot (if not the majority) of organic food, at least in the UK. Is anyone willing to help me expand the userpage so that I can move it to a properly notable article please?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:15, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Questionable food safety claims at several genetic engineering articles

Hi folks. For a while now, I've been concerned about a set of questionable food safety claims on Wikipedia. You will see on the page Genetically modified food the statement: "There is broad scientific consensus that food on the market derived from GM crops poses no greater risk to human health than conventional food." This claim appears on other pages, too, such as Genetically modified food controversies and Genetically modified crops. After becoming involved in a lengthy discussion about these pages, I did some research on the sources provided for the claim, and then on other sources which might contradict it.

My findings are detailed here. From what I can tell, there is hardly a scientific consensus about the comparative safety of genetically engineered food, currently sold or otherwise. In my opinion it is a grievous error to make such a misstatement on a website used, for better or for worse, by many people, as their first source of information. I bring this to your attention because I see that these articles fall within the scope of this project, and because presumably readers of this page care about food safety issues. shalom, groupuscule (talk) 17:44, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

yes, that has been there too long. It is a tour de force of post-modern literary criticism, which is not what we do here. Most importantly, there already was an RfC on the statement of the scientific consensus on the relative safety of currently marketed food that took groupuscule's lit crit into account. The RfC is here. There has been no new science to change the scientific consensus since the RfC. Jytdog (talk) 19:06, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Note: Jytdog, please leave edit summaries lest folks think you are trying to hide something. Further, the editing that has held sway over the GMO articles since you have been in control of them is being called into question, and may end up at ArbCom. Why not take a break from this area for a while, and let non-involved editors have a say? The best encyclopedia articles are written in a dispassionate voice, showing all sides of the story with due weight, and not by industry insiders. Thanks, petrarchan47tc 21:43, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
I have to agree with Group here, "consensus" is far from accurate. (IMO, this statement makes the WP articles in question read more like a biotech press release than an encyclopedia.) petrarchan47tc 21:53, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
Funny, usually Jytdog is killing off all health claims with an endless story of WP:MEDRS, especially with organic food. And here he supports dubious health claims The Banner talk 23:10, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Comment: This looks like forum shopping, given that editors here were not informed of the result of the previous discussions on the subject, and there were no notifications at any of the venues where the issue was previously discussed. Sunrise (talk) 23:16, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
