ScotClans a reliable source?

edit

Hi all, is www.scotclans.com considered a reliable source? More specifically the historical clan information pages like https://www.scotclans.com/blogs/clans-c/clan-cathcart-places-people. Thanks. Kj cheetham (talk) 20:22, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Replying to myself, I also posted this to WP:RSN and the conclusion seems to be no, it's a blog. -Kj cheetham (talk) 08:45, 6 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Tartan#Clan tartans

edit

I've just overhauled the Tartans article to finally have (again?) a coherent section on the history of clan tartans and their adoption (and redirects like Clan tartan and Scottish clan tartans go there). I also fixed up a bunch of other deficiencies in the article over the last few days but am not done yet.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  08:51, 14 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposals

edit

Received request to merge the Clan Duncan (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (C) article into Clan Robertson (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (C) article on 21 June 2023 (UTC). Reason: They're the same clan (it has three different names), and this is at least a WP:CONTENTFORK. I think it borders on a WP:POVFORK, because the Duncan article appears to have been heavily edited by people from a latter-day clan association who are pushing for separate Lord Lyon recognition, etc. — SMcCandlish

~and~

Received a request to merge the List of tartans#Scottish clan tartans section into the List of Scottish clans article on 23 June 2023 (UTC). Reason: Because the latter will list all clans and their tartans, the list of clan tartans in the former article is necessarily redundant, so this is at least a WP:CONTENTFORK. I think it borders on a WP:POVFORK, because the former article is over-relying on a fraudulent Victorian source, the Vestiarium Scoticum, and thereby promoting tartans that many clans have since rejected. Anyway, it's completely normal for huge-scope lists to branch out to narrower-topic sublists like this, and List of tartans is already doing that in several cases; this would just be another one.  — SMcCandlish. Draft:Clan Watson

edit

I notice this article on Draft:Clan Watson, I think the editor who started this is doing a great job, considering Clan Watson is a miner Armigerous clan. But I was surprised to see two senior editors who are denying the article on the grounds that it dose not meet various criteria. I disagree with their observations, compared to some clan articles - Clan Watson is more than adequate in my view. Things have obviously changed since I last edited clan articles; but this new draconian clamp on stub like articles could discourage more Scottish Clan editors. I drew an svg of the shield but I do not know anything on the Watson's history; perhaps other editors could check to see if they have a ref or two with information to help the article. Expert needed

edit

I've tagged Clan Robertson with {{expert needed}} because of a disputed source about the "historical seat" of the clan. Mainly, my goal is to get the article correctly (without error) and properly (WP:V, WP:RS) referenced. But I'm not familiar with Scottish clans and could use some help. Please see the messages on the Talk page for more context. Thanks! -- Mikeblas (talk) 15:29, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Tartan length problem

edit

I'm not at all involved with this topic or project but it caught my eye that Tartan is *way* too long. I'm talking top 5 longest non list articles on Wikipedia. I think you could do some splitting between clan tartans, History of tartans, and Tartan design. BoxOfTurtles (talk) 12:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
