Over at WikiProject Geology/Meteorites we're having a month long focus to eliminate red links either by starting new articles or by finding appropriate link targets within existing articles. We'd be very glad of WikiProject Awards and prizes' help with any of the following:
Academy Award non free image and placeholder discussion
An editor had placed a non free image on the article Academy Award believing that the Commons policy on source country freedom of Panorama applies to Wikipedia because commons recently decided by consensus to allow the uploads until a law suit somewhere creates case law. Wikipedia has a strict non free image policy about the use of copyrighted 3 dimensional works. Since the image is not allowed on Wikipedia without a fair use rationale and a placeholder image has been put into the infobox, a consensus discussion has begun to determine if the place holder should remain at Talk:Academy Award#Image place holder? please join the discussion and add you input.--Amadscientist (talk) 18:26, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Peter Mark Memorial Award
Hey everyone,
I stumbled across the article for the Peter Mark Memorial award while clicking "Random Article" and noticed it had a bunch of gaping holes in the table, so I've remedied that to some degree.
The issue: The "Citation" field in the table...it appears that so far, the entries are just copy/pasted from the AVS web site (the source, which, I've updated, as the older one was defunct).
Is that a copyvio issue...and should the Citation field of the table be outright deleted? Wanted to check with those who will know better than I. Thanks! GRUcrule (talk) 20:44, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
São Paulo Prize for Literature
It looks like I'm the only one who has really worked on the São Paulo Prize for Literature for awhile. I was able to dig up a substantial amount of information for each year the prize has been given, like who served on the jury, and how many books were judged. It's all in the main article right now, but I've noticed a lot of other prizes actually create separate articles for each year it is given. See for example the Man Booker Prize prize page, which is supplemented by the 2012 Man Booker Prize page and the 2013 Man Booker Prize page. I feel like the São Paulo Prize for Literature page looks cluttered with all the information, but if I break out each year into it's own page, then I feel like each of the individual articles may be too small to be worth it. Any suggestions? Vojen (talk) 22:44, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
About Grammy Award naming scheme
Hi. I have recently come across a conundrum over the names of our Grammy Award articles. The year we are using for our Grammy articles is "off by one" from the year that the Grammy organization is using. For instance, the article 1977 Grammy Awards corresponds to the "1976, 19th Annual Grammy Awards" on their website. The only discussion I've found about the naming of Grammy articles is this archived one. I'm not disputing that the award ceremony happened in 1977; in that sense they are the 1977 Grammy Awards. But since the awards are given, I guess, for records released in 1976, in that sense they are the 1976 Grammy Awards; it is this interpretation that the Grammy organization seems to be using for some, if not all, years. Thoughts on this? Previous discussions I've yet to find? Jason Quinn (talk) 16:37, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
- The Recording Academy usually names the ceremonies using ordinal numbers (eg here, and here they use both year and ordinal number. I'd be happy to see the articles renamed in such a fashion. Adabow (talk) 06:51, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
- I found this discussion about the naming scheme. Jason Quinn (talk) 04:32, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- I noticed that the Academy Award pages like 83rd Academy Awards use you naming scheme you suggest Adabow. I suppose a change could be in order. I'm surprised so few people have commented on this issue. I would have thought that the Grammies are a popular subject for editors. Hmph. Jason Quinn (talk) 20:12, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- it seems that there was consensus for moving back to ordinal numbers, but no one requested admin help. Adabow (talk) 20:22, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
I don't know about consensus but the current naming system is a big, confusing mistake. Perhaps that's why basically all the major award articles use the ordinal number naming scheme instead. For instance:
- 76th Academy Awards
- 19th Primetime Emmy Awards
- 61st Golden Globe Awards
- 25th Golden Raspberry Awards
- 58th Tony Awards
- 31st People's Choice Awards
- 31st Saturn Awards
I fear from the silence here that nobody is really interested in maintaining the Grammy Awards anyway. Given the huge issue with ambiguity in the year, the Grammy organization itself preferring the ordinal scheme, and the precedent of the other major awards, I think it's okay if we go ahead and declare that the pages should be changed back to the ordinal naming scheme. Ugh... What a mess. Now it's just a matter of doing it. Jason Quinn (talk) 20:28, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- I think I have found a good solution to this problem. The word "Annual" appears to be an official part of the award ceremony name. For instance the article for the ceremony that happened in 1970 should be called 12th Annual Grammy Awards (which does not currently exist) while 12th Grammy Awards does exist as a redirect. Except for a handful of years, pages have not been created that use "annual" as part of the name. So by moving the existing articles over to new pages that use "annual" with improve the naming scheme at the same time as using a better name. This is my plan. I will wait a few days for more comments and then begin to implement it. Jason Quinn (talk) 20:37, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
I have moved the first five Grammy Award ceremonies as above. I will pause for a while, perhaps two or three days, to see if it attracts any more interest in this discussion. I don't know how the off-by-one error will be solved (that is, what the Grammy organization calls the 1959 Grammy Awards is what we are calling the 1960 Grammy Awards and so on). I shudder to think how many links are involved with that problem. Any article that has a link like 1975 Grammy Awards really should be 1974 Grammy Awards. Can't just change the redirect or it will screw up the content of those articles. Jason Quinn (talk) 01:37, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
UPDATE: I have now changed the first 20 Grammy Award pages over to the new scheme. Over the next week or so I'll finish the rest. Jason Quinn (talk) 03:04, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
UPDATE 2: I have finished the renaming of all the articles. I corrected a few issues with redirects and unreverted talk page blanking along the way, including finding yet another comment by a user confused by the year-based scheme. Unfortunately, there are many thousands of articles that link to the Grammy by year titles. it looks like we are stuck with the "off by one year" naming scheme compared to the Grammy organization itself for the indeterminate future. I'm thinking that I should move protect all these articles so that any future renaming is properly debated. One thing I'm wondering is if the Grammy organization dropped the word "Annual" from the official name of the ceremonies at some point, which may require another minor renaming for a subset of the later articles. Singular and plural Award(s)
Current discussion of moving the Academy Award article (Suggested move) alerts me to the WP:SINGULAR admonition to use the singular in article titles. Consider Nobel Prize and National Book Award which are about annual sets of awards.
Perhaps these articles on British literary awards should have singular names
- Costa Book Awards (previously Whitbread)
- Specsavers National Book Awards (previously Galaxy); Category:British Book Awards
- Hampshire Book Awards
and there are many more Pages in Category:American literary awards. --P64 (talk) 20:07, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know if the specific preferred usage of any one of those awards would weigh against a singular form, but I have no objections to changing all of the plural article titles to singular. --Vojen (talk) 08:00, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Which of those awards make a person notable?
See Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(people)#The_person_has_received_a_well-known_and_significant_award_or_honor.2C_or_has_been_nominated_for_one_several_times.. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:53, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
- That's a good question. The importance of an award will sometimes vary over time as will the importance of its recipients, and oftentimes an award only becomes notable because it successfully identifies notable individuals before their notability is generally recognized. Notability is probably going to come down to a case by case basis for most people, but if you're looking for a general rule, you can check the Awards and Prizes WikiProject ranking for importance. Unfortunately this project is not as active as some of the other projects, so a lot of awards are laking importance ranks, and many that are ranked haven't been fully veted. However, as a general guideline I'd say winning or even being listed as a finalist for an award that has been ranked for Top Importance would probably make an individual notable per se. Winners of an award ranked for High Importance would also be per se notable, but I don't know that I would extend that distinction to award finalists. Of course many of the other finalists would be notable anyway, but if we're talking about a per se rule, this is where I would draw the line. Many of the Mid Importance rank awards are really just individual iterations of higher ranked awards (e.g. the article for the 26th Annual Grammy Awards is given a mid-importance rank, but the article for the Grammy Award itself is given a high-importance rank), so many of the winners of these awards will still be notable as winners of higher ranked awards. This is also true of many of the sports awards, like the Cy Young Award or the Heisman Trophy, both of which are mid-importance for awards purposes, but are high-importance in their respective fields. However, other awards look less significant, such as the J. Tuzo Wilson Medal. It has some notable recipients, but most are not. So I would say no per se rule on notability for mid-importance awards, just high and top. If anyone else has an opinion, please feel free to add your input.Vojen (talk) 07:45, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/international design awards
Is Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/international design awards a notable topic? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:32, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- No way of knowing since the creator has not provided any references. References are the basic starting point of any article. Softlavender (talk) 07:49, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- "No way of knowing," unless a reader of this talk page is familiar enough with the award to say "Oh, that's a well-known award" or "oh, that's a 2-bit vanity award." I'm hoping that since people who read this are interested in awards, someone might be able to fill in the blanks left by the absence of suitable references. If the topic is "known to be non-notable" then it can be declined with much stronger language than if it's just "not known to be notable." If it's "known to be notable" then it can be commented with "known-notable topic, declining due to lack of references, please work in it" or, if the reviewer has time and access to suitable sources, accepted and properly referenced. I guess what I'm trying to do is get the article in the encyclopedia if it's a notable topic or permanently discourage the submitter from trying again if it's a "known non-notable" topic. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:33, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- A quick Google search reveals them to be this. The content is alarmingly similar in parts to the "about" section. Checking Google News, I see no reference to these awards. There are other "International Design Awards" with press e.g. SBID International Design Awards. However, the IDA does have a website press section - see "IDA In The News". There are a few links; none scream notability. However, there is one major link to what is presumably a mention in the Financial Times; unfortunately I don't have subscription access to confirm/deny this and assert notability from it. I would question the notability unless this source has a fairly strong assertion. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 18:22, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Need help on Ian Charleson Awards
These are very highly regarded, very prestigious theatre awards in the UK; however there is little publicity and no glitz (serious actors/theatre-goers actually prefer it that way and feel it adds to their greater legitimacy). Because of the low publicity, there is less information easily available about the awards as a whole (e.g., no official website). Also, the Sunday Times, which sponsors the awards, is behind a paywall. For all of these reasons, the Wikipedia article on the Ian Charleson Awards is greatly lacking -- much information is missing, and most of what is there is uncited. If anyone would like to help out with expanding the article, please help! Even just the basic information for many years is incomplete or missing. Any additions to the article would be greatly appreciated. It would also help if you have a subscription to The Times (I don't, currently), but it's not necessary because the award information is out there on the web in other more scattered places. I also just spent many hours cleaning up the format of the article, which was a mess. I'm not 100% convinced that the format I came up with is the best one, so other opinions on that are welcome, too. Thank you very much! Softlavender (talk) 02:35, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Belated followup: I managed to get a one-month subscription to The Times, and a three-day subscription to The Times' digital archive, and printed out all of the twice-yearly Sunday Times articles on these awards, and updated and corrected and expanded the Wikipedia article accordingly. No further help needed. Softlavender (talk) 04:55, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
Grammy Award templates
Suddenly many less important Grammy award templates have been created. Looking at Category:Grammy Award templates I see Template:Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance, Template:Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, Template:Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Template:Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, Template:Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronica Album, Template:Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Template:Grammy Award for Best Music Video, Template:PolkaGrammy, and Template:Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album have all been created unnecessarily. These are almost all basically subcategory awards of the big four. Should we delete all of these lesser Grammy award templates?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:52, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- I agree that only the "big four" should have navboxes. Others are simply coatracks of undue weight. Adabow (talk) 08:27, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
- I agree, only the major four navboxes are useful. WikiRedactor (talk) 22:34, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
- A bundled nomination at TfD might be in order. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 00:30, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose this action, and the note above smacks of WP:Canvassing. An editor deciding they don't like a handful of Grammy categories, declaring them "less important" somehow, and having an unadvertised discussion with a couple of other folks on a US holiday weekend is hardly a broad consensus to delete useful navigation templates without other cause. - Dravecky (talk) 04:47, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
When are awards considered defunct?
For example PEN/Nabokov Award. Many times awards will stop operating with no notice. The only evidence is lack of evidence. At what point in time do we say the award has been non-existent for X years and therefore should be referred to in the past-tense and given a Defunct category entry? Interesting question perhaps no hard rule but raises the question about how to verify something (the award is defunct) by way of lack of sources. -- GreenC 02:37, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- Good question. If you can't find evidence in the normal sources, I would try contacting the sponsoring organization directly. Sometimes there'll be an announcement of a formal withdrawal from sponsorship or closure of a prize, but these are not always well advertized. It's also fairly common for a prize to skip a year or two due to funding issues or a failure to find a satisfactory winner, so you wouldn't want to declare something defunct prematurely. If direct contact fails and it's been at least 5 years since the prize was last awarded, I'd be comfortable with an article saying something like: "The prize was last awarded in (year). The prize is now presumed to be defunct." Obviously 5 years is an arbitraty number and may not always be appropriate for prizes that are known to be sporadic or infrequent (for example, Granta has recognized the Best Young British Authors on an ongoing 10 year cycle since 1983), but if a prize that was meant to be awarded annually goes on a 5 year hiatus, it's hard to say it's still active. Even if it does come back, you could probably still say that the prize was effectively defunct for the 5 year period before it was brought back. Vojen (talk) 01:27, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Potential review needed
Hi. I have just blocked a user for adding content without sources; because of this, I do not feel like I should engage on content with him. However, noting that higher on the page he had been warned about adding sources that don't actually support the content he's placing, I took a glance at a few of the sources used in List of awards and nominations received by Beyoncé and while the sources I looked at do support the content, I'm really unsure about the content. For instance, it is sourced that Beyonce is "Bing's Most-Searched Celebrity", but is this really an award or nomination? It wasn't really a competition, was it? Similarly, Guinness Book of World's Records evidently names her and her husband as a power couple; is that an award? The article is littered with such information. While this may be standard for such articles, I'm unsure due to my lack of involvement in the area, and, again, since I blocked the editor I do not feel I can become involved. I wanted to make a note in case there is an issue with bloat and somebody wanted to take a look. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:32, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

Myself and Noyster have had a sort of disagreement about the edit to the Vsauce article made by Xtina fighter2 on 3 January 2015. "List of awards and nominations" vs. "List of accolades"
I've noticed a lot of inconsistency within lists of awards received in this project. Some articles, mainly films, use "List of accolades received by...", while others, mainly for individuals, use "List of awards and nominations received by..."
Shouldn't the same format be used throughout all lists? And if we're going to choose one, shouldn't we go with "accolades" since it's more concise? –Chase (talk / contribs) 01:52, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Note: Accolades includes any kind of honor, not just awards or award nominations. Therefore not synonymous. Softlavender (talk) 04:24, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- But if accolades are any type of honor, then awards and nominations would be considered accolades, no? –Chase (talk / contribs) 05:11, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Some articles are only lists of awards/noms (and are restricted to such), and if they included every single honor the article would be tiresomely bloated, in some cases with insignificant trivia. It also bears mentioning that "accolades" sounds pompous and pretentious when referring to simply awards and nominations. Softlavender (talk) 06:39, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- A quick look through many of the current "film accolade" featured lists shows that many of these just include awards and nominations, with only a few containing a small handful of "runner-up", "2nd place", etc. type accolades. –Chase (talk / contribs) 12:53, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- "Awards and honors" (or "honours" for British topics) covers accolades, nominations, etc.. is a typical heading for literary articles. -- GreenC 14:11, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- That works for literary articles, but for e.g. performers "Awards and nominations" is a better title, because honors would become too coat-racky for many performers. In any case, either of these designations is better than "Accolades" in my view. Softlavender (talk) 00:37, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Macklemore - Separate "List of awards and nominations received" page?
I was reviewing and copyediting the Macklemore article. I got to the Awards and nominations section and noticed it was quite long. (In addition, it seems Ryan Lewis is over wikilinked, but that's not what brought me here.) I was curious how this was handled with other artists and looked up one at random, Bon Jovi, and found a separate List of awards and nominations received by Bon Jovi article. Would this be appropriate for Macklemore? Anybody here care to take on the task of creating the list article? *Seen a Mike* 20:23, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Missing awards lists
It appears that there are as of yet no lists for Obie Award for Distinguished Performance by an Actor or Obie Award for Distinguished Performance by an Ensemble. The only one which has been created is Obie Award for Distinguished Performance by an Actress. While not quite as well-known as the Tony Awards, the Obie Awards for Off-Broadway theatre have been around for several decades. It seems like this would be an important addition to make. --GentlemanGhost (converse) 03:06, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah. It seems like the thing about such items is that the person most interested in the matter ends up creating the lists. That's been my personal experience. So if no one jumps on board, I suggest your enthusiasm for or interest in the matter indicates you are or may be the person for the job. :-) Softlavender (talk) 03:28, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Template:Awards
While cleaning up an infobox, I noticed that Template:Awards emboldens the name of the award, which doesn't seem to fit with MOS:BOLD. Before I propose removal of the bold markup from the template, I thought I ought to enquire here first to see if anybody knew a reason why the name of an award should be an exception to our manual of style. Any thoughts, please add to Template talk:Awards #Bold text. Thanks in advance, --RexxS (talk) 23:43, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Help needed at List of awards and nominations received by Hugh Jackman
Help and eyes needed at List of awards and nominations received by Hugh Jackman. Right now only two are listed (one award and one nomination), and all the others have been removed. And if you try to add the others back in, you get a block message that prevents that. The block message says: "Awards and nominations must have citations to reliable sources validating each and every award received. If this edit is not an attempt to add unsourced material related to awards and nominations, please report this error." Softlavender (talk) 14:03, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- I don't understand your problem, Softlavender. The message told you that you couldn't add the awards and nominations without providing citations to reliable source validating each and every award received. You didn't do that: instead, you just tried to trip the filter over and over. How about finding citations to reliable sources that validate each and every award you add and including them in your edit? Then, your edit will comply with WP:V and the filter won't block it.—Kww(talk) 14:10, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- Kww, citations are not specifically absolutely required for each and every single award in a List article for an extremely notable person, unless there is actual reason to doubt their veracity -- these awards are all a matter of public record. Cf., for instance, List of awards and nominations received by Philip Seymour Hoffman, the awards listing for a Featured Article. Or List of awards and nominations received by Meryl Streep. I would appreciate it if you would restore the 60 awards and nominations you have removed from the article, and if you would also remove the edit-block. I do not believe that the edit-block is within Wikipedia policy; nor do I believe that removal of 60 awards and nominations without notice and without Talk-page discussion is within Wikipedia policy. If you want more citations, please place a tag on the article. Right now the article has only a single award and a single nomination, making the article highly inaccurate. I believe that blocking auto-confirmed editors from restoring mass deletions without a WP:RFPP by an uninvolved admin is against Wikipedia policy. Can you tell me who created that edit-block feature and under whose aegis/guidance/discussion? Softlavender (talk) 14:42, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
- There's no reason to carry on identical conversations in parallel. This discussion is over at Talk:Hugh Jackman.—Kww(talk) 15:33, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
Kww If you keep this up I'll be requesting a ban on you from award articles. Your editing is irresponsible and in poor judgement.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:20, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
Awards at Wikidata...
Hoi, many awards are of interest to both Wikidata and all Wikipedias. It is possible to use Wikidata as the source of data about this subject. The problem it solves is that every person with an article in any Wikipedia has a Wikidata item. Consequently, when an award is updated in Wikidata, all the articles with a list of an award can be updated. Often particularly when an award is a "foreign" award, the information at the other Wikipedia is more complete anyway.. You can piggy back on this information if you want to.
PS There are are the moment 182,635 items with "received award".. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 20:21, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- This is something I've wanted to do for a very long time. It's unclear how it would be structured at Wikidata as every award has its own record types to keep track of. It's not just "John Smith won a Pulitzer". The Pulitzer for example has many sub-categories of winners along with runner ups. Sometimes short lists and long lists. Sometimes co-winners. Sometimes, author + illustrator + translator (or some combo). Sometimes the award is for a book, sometimes just for the author. Each award can have its own unique fields for info to track, and those requirements could even change from year to year as the award is restructured. Then how to display the data in the award article and person article? Need templates (Lua) and each template would be customized for that particular award's requirements. It gets pretty complicated though not impossible. One concern is if it gets too complicated it will discourage editors from updating new winners, not worth the effort too much work with unfamiliar methods. What are the pros and cons. -- GreenC 20:47, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Updates of awards information & Wikidata
Hoi, I have imported a lot of data from several Wikipedias. What I noticed is that the quality of the information is not always that great. That is in and of itself not so much of a problem. WHat is more relevant is that several fairly notable awards have not been updated with later information. Some Wikipedias do and some do not have the updated information. As the information aggregates at Wikidata it gets a higher quality.
At Wikidata we have as a policy that an award is its own item and the organisation that confers it is always separate. We can also only have entries for items and it then does not matter if there is an associated article somewhere. The challenge is to have the best information everywhere. It is technically possible to have lists with the information updated whenever something new is added in Wikidata.
Would you be interested to do an experiment with one award or maybe multiple awards?
PS this is one I am working on. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 06:31, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hi GerardM, yes this is something I have wanted for a very long time, to track award winners in a database so they are available to all projects - enter winner once in Wikidata and appear in every language article automatically. I envisioned a Lua script to pull Wikidata and display-format in the award article winners section. Is this something you envision? I have written Lua script before and know how to request Wikidata. Do you want to try this for Nansen Refugee Award? It's very simple with only 1 winner per year and no finalists. The problem is each language wiki would need a language localized version of the Lua template. -- GreenC 15:56, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- I am going to do this for the Nansen Refugee Award. When you like what you see, I am happy to show you all the steps I tool. I really want to do this one myself because I am going to blog about it. Then we do a similar one together and then we look at a more complex one. Is this a plan? Thanks, GerardM (talk) 20:06, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oh yes sure great. I'll add Nansen Refugee Award to my watchlist and/or post here anytime. Thanks. -- GreenC 22:47, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

- I blogged about it> I did not change anything in the text of the award. I am now adding red links and when done I will blog again and have a result. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 08:04, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
- Be sure to document the variety of "display-format" that are automated. There is immense variety across the winners sections of awards articles here at EN.wiki.
- On the Wikidata side I think you both plan that every award winner is a WD item --is represented by a Q-page at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki, such as D:Q4927681 for Blood Red Road. That would now sharply limit the numbers of awards whose Wikipedia tabulation of winners, not to mention winners and finalists/shortlists/runner-up/honors, may be automated via Wikidata.
- In order to check the integrity of winners, or winners and others, at Wikidata it may be necessary to add a "no award" property for periodic awards such as annuals. Eg for the Carnegie Medal (literary award) at Wikidata, no award = {1943, 1945, 1966} or {1944, 1946, 1967}.
- gotta go. good luck. --P64 (talk) 17:04, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- There is no problem in adding items in order to complete a list. Items do not need articles in a project. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 10:18, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
- That's good to know I was also wondering about that. There is a great diversity of how awards are structured, see for example National Book Award for Nonfiction. But don't need to solve all at once (or ever), many awards are simple with a single winner no finalists or categories. -- GreenC 15:11, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

The Hans Christian Andersen Award is biennial with two categories, writers and illustrators (or writing/text and illustrations). There are dozens of nominees each cycle, as any national chapter of the IBBY may nominate someone. For winners, however, only 25 in number from 1966 to 2014, the illustrator award is complete at Wikidata. Every winner, such as Christine Nöstlinger d:Q93652, is a Wikidata item with property "award received" Hans Christian Andersen Award; qualifier "as: illustrator"; qualfier "point in time: YYYY". --P64 (talk) 23:59, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

- Very interesting. A problem is no references, for example Prix Médicis has inline references but User:GerardM/Prix Médicis does not. -- GreenC 17:04, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- You do not get the point. The comparison is not between the articles it is about the presentation of the list. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 21:35, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- Oh. What is the point then - where and how do you plan to use it? It can't be used on Wikipedia without references. Specifically the winners for 2013-15 which have references. -- 22:08, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
- The references are text they can be copied like always. The award links to the official website, so you can review the data to your hearts content. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 07:14, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- Not sure what is meant "like always". A mechanism for displaying secondary inline sources would be required. For example, to include a reference to the Washington Post for the winner of the 2010 User:GerardM/Prix Médicis. Award websites often have incomplete or missing winner information. Or additional sources are desired for whatever reason such as when the award goes defunct and there is no official website. Or the official website doesn't have a complete list of past winners which is very common, and each year's winner required a different source. -- GreenC 01:39, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.
If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 22:18, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

We need a notability guideline about awards
See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history#Notability_of_military_medals_and_awards. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:56, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- I missed that discussion. I think WP:OCAWARD is inadequate because it basically restates WP:DEFINING. I would rather something along the line that "if an award increases a person's notability, it's defining; if it reflects it, it's not." We can still disagree on when that happens but it at least gives us a standard. I don't see the need for separate military/civilian guideline though. Can a project member help update an article with Guinness World Record verification?
On behalf of Honor, I've submitted two edit requests to update the Huawei Honor 8 article at Talk:Huawei Honor 8. One is to add an additional sentence to the "Reception" section, but more relevant to WikiProject Awards and prizes, another is to note the record for highest smartphone livestream, as verified by Guinness World Records. I've tried to make these edit requests as easy to implement as possible by clearly providing sourcing and markup to copy and paste to the article. Is there a project member who is willing to help with one or both of these requests? I can answer any questions on the talk page. Thanks for your consideration! The article Deutscher Schulbuchpreis has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Xx236 (talk) 10:57, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
