Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Miami 3
So... since everyone's busy, I'm thinking let's not met until maybe mid-May? - Jameson L. Tai talk ♦ contribs 08:51, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm ready to recreate it, I'll go if about 10 contributers come. Secret account 22:08, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- If there is a firm date, I'll be able to find out if I can make it or not. I'm on the west coast, but I doubt there will be one over here. Niteshift36 (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm looking for a firm date, I'm saying sometime between Christmas and New Years. Secret account 12:48, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- I will be staying with my partner's mother across from the Aventura Mall for a few days. As long as the meetup isn't on his mother's birthday, we'll come. Horologium (talk) 21:51, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- I don't live near Miami anymore. What list do I take myself off of to make this clear?—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 00:00, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- I am fairly sure that Secret sent out the invite people whom he has seen editing Florida articles. I live in Gainesville, which is also not very close to Miami, but I edit articles in the Fort Lauderdale area, where I grew up. Some of the other confirmed invitees are also from elsewhere; Niteshift has stated he is on the west coast (of Florida), and Cuchullain is in Jax. Please don't get bent out of shape over an invite. How about Bayside Marketplace at 12 Noon on Monday, December 28th. That's in the middle of the county, middle of the day, and middle of the holidays. GroveGuy —Preceding undated comment added 04:01, 12 December 2009 (UTC).
I could do that, I'll likely be out of town for the holidays, but be back by the 28th, the 27th would be better because it's a Sunday Secret account 19:05, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
I would like to attend as long it's not during work hours on a weekday. --Scaletail (talk) 21:33, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
I think Sunday is doable for me as long as it's not too early. My famiy and I usually have our get-togethers; brunch/late lunch. So, 5PMish or later is my preference. My vote is for Bayside Marketplace. I'm not a big fan of Lincoln Road or Aventura. Hope this helps narrow it down. --Neon Sky (talk) 21:09, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- I am wondering if anyone here lives closer to Fort Lauderdale area? Can we do this somewhere in Broward County at a location near I95 perhaps the restaurant in Bass Pro Shop's Outdoor World? (address is here http://fort.lauderdale.retailguide.com/data/s103077.htm ). NancyHeise talk 00:04, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- I'd love to attend, but I won't be able to. Maybe the next one. Niteshift36 (talk) 05:44, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- This week is likely going to be impossible for me, maybe the 28th or the 29th, but not the 27th. Thanks Secret account 19:22, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- So did anybody actually meet today? No place was ever posted. *Dan T.* (talk) 00:04, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- We still in discussion, I had work commitments, it could be next month the meeting. Secret account 20:22, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
- I would suggest that you rather plan for February, so that you folks have some time to get your act together, and can setlle on a definite time and place a few weeks beforehand.--Pharos (talk) 04:30, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

I think someone, preferably the person who has followed the meet-up from the beginning, needs to just descide a time and place, period. I think at least three weeks notice is good enough. Then have people confirm at least two days prior to the event. If there is no consensus about at least five people, it gets cancelled. Otherwise, it's on. You can not please all of the people all of the time. Cliche? Yes. Accurate? absolutely. :) My two cents. New Suggestion
edit- I propose meeting at Outdoor World on January 30th in the restaurant at 1:30 - directions are here http://fort.lauderdale.retailguide.com/data/s103077.htm . NancyHeise talk 07:19, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
- That sounds good. --Scaletail (talk) 14:41, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe, depends on my health Secret account 14:42, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Neutral Location
editDania is well over a 90 minute drive from Miami-Dade county. That said, I very much doubt anyone is willing to make the hike. I recommend choosing a more neutral place that's fair for everyone. I looked at the map for a midpoint between Dania and Kendall, and came up with North Miami Beach/Aventura. I don't know the area well but am sure there are tons of great little restaurants we can pick. Unless the location changes, I won't be able to make it. Anyone else agree? Please chime in. Thanks! --Neon Sky (talk) 18:22, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- It's right off 95, so I have difficulty believing it's over 90 minutes from anywhere in Dade County. Google Maps has at at just over an hour from the Redlands. You're also assuming that people are not coming from north of Dania Beach. --Scaletail (talk) 21:34, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- I clearly stated a midpoint between Kendall and Dania because they seemed to be the more common endpoints. I also kept in mind there are probably some coming from further south of Kendall, such as myself. I don't know what you were able to gather from Google maps, but I do know from experience that via the Turnpike, it does take over 90 minute drive to Dania. As for getting to I-95, that alone is a 45 minute drive. Perhaps you would like to google that too; start from Palmetto Bay and see what comes up (don't forget to account for wind resistance, aka Miami traffic). Worse comes to worse, perhaps we should pick two sites and put it to a vote. Goodnight. --Neon Sky (talk) 05:28, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- It states the shortest time is 47 minutes, via 95. You're right, of course, traffic is ridiculous getting to 95 using US 1. I know it's very bad during rush hour, but I don't think anybody is suggesting that the meetup should be anywhere near that time. Even if it takes you 45 minutes to get to 95, it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes there once you're on 95, which is 75, i.e. less than 90 minutes. It's still a substantial trip, I'll give you that, but you're still closer than the folks who are coming from West Palm Beach.
- Aventura is quite close to me, so I would be willing to go there, too. In fact, it was one of the originally proposed locations. There are all kinds of restaurants in and around Aventura Mall. If you think one of them is appropriate, go ahead and suggest it. --Scaletail (talk) 21:09, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- Aventura seems good. Secret account 13:41, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
- Outdoor World is right off 95 and there is a Tri-Rail station that dumps people off at its front door (a block or two walking distance). Are you sure this is too far and inconvenient? It is a 35 minute drive for me to get there - I live north of Fort Lauderdale. Aventura is OK with me if you insist but I think you may not realize how easy it is to get to Outdoor World. They have a terrific restaurant there called Islamorada Fish Company and its a really neat store as well if you've never been. NancyHeise talk 19:45, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Nancy. No, I've never been there, sounds interesting. I think I will leave it to the majority. :) --Neon Sky (talk) 20:32, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Me too. Either location is OK with me. NancyHeise talk 20:51, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Aventura
editAre we meeting at Aventura tomorrow? What time and where exactly? NancyHeise talk 01:56, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, no possible way I can be there tomorrow. Niteshift36 (talk) 02:14, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- OK, well it looks like no one is coming so this is an official cancellation. Maybe next time we'll be able to make it all work out. NancyHeise talk 16:30, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

editHi Wiki-Floridians! I'd like to let you know about all the Wikipedia 10th anniversary worldwide events for January 2011, and maybe you'd be interested in doing something in Miami/Florida then too :)--Pharos (talk) 06:42, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
