Some comments

Currently these pages are placed at Wikipedia:MediaWiki/DeveloperMemo. But I think these pages should be moved to for instance Wikipedia:MediaWiki developer memo. Mostly since I think this should not be a subpage, and the page Wikipedia:MediaWiki now is a redirect.

I would like to add a comment in some places on these pages that bugs and feature requests should in most cases first be discussed at the Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)‎‎. Since that means more people will look at the problem, thus more aspects of it will be understood and a better consensus can be achieved about what is needed. Thus enabling a much better report here.

Agree with both of those. The aim of the memo is to bring things to the attention of developers which the community has agreed. At minimum, nothing should come here for discussion about possible inclusion in the memo without prior discussion elsewhere. Rd232 ^talk 16:40, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

• should in most cases first be discussed - not that I completely against this idea, but for myself this may make too high entry point: unfortunately, in our local wikipedia there isn't enough interest to discuss technical questions even between technicians, whereas participating also in en:Village pump may be overkilling for me. • • This memo serves a specific purpose, namely coordinating communication between English Wikipedia and developers. Initial discussions are better handled for a variety of reasons at WP:VPT; please respect that. "Overkill" doesn't come into it, since posting at this venue is not of greater or lesser significance than VPT - the venue just serves a different purpose. Not respecting that diminishes the effectiveness of the two venues as well as the likelihood of serious discussion of your ideas. Rd232 ^talk 20:31, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

AVB: The Village pump is a fairly friendly and helpful place, so don't be afraid of using it. Many users from smaller Wikipedias come there for help and discussion, just because there are not enough experts in their own Wikipedia. I myself am Swedish, but I discuss here at the English Wikipedia for that very reason.
