Wikipedia talk:List of administrators

"Administrators who have not listed their email addresses can still be contacted..."

edit

[1] I don't get this paragraph. As far as I understand, users can completely disable emailing in their preferences if they choose to. So no, they cannot "still be contacted by using the "email this user" link on the left side of their userpage or talk page", regardless of whether or not they have "listed their email addresses" somewhere. If they disabled the link it won't show up. -- œ 04:03, 26 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Former Admins?

edit

Is there a list or category that covers former administrators? I was unable to find one.Dialectric (talk) 19:14, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Answering my own question, the list is at Wikipedia:Former administrators.Dialectric (talk) 00:03, 17 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

List of administrators by admin date?

edit

I think such a list would be interesting, but it doesn't exist at the moment. I'd be interested to know, for example, who the longest-standing administrators are, and how that list will change in the future. KaisaL (talk) 08:50, 2 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Isn't Wikipedia:Successful requests for adminship what you're looking for? ‑ Iridescent 2 13:21, 2 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
That list does not account for attrition. –xenotalk 14:39, 2 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
As xeno says, but also that list only has precise information back to 2003. Using ListUsers, NoSeptember's list and a spot of research, though, I've been able to figure out that there's a few long-standing admins still sysopped (excluding Jimmy Wales) that became users in 2001 and were administrators by the time that the records for exact dates began, but with no precise dates for any of them. Kpjas became a user before them all, but didn't pass RFA until 2006. This nonetheless makes him the longest-standing user to still be an administrator. KaisaL (talk) 22:15, 2 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
A little more research narrows down the list to five: AxelBoldt, Magnus Manske, Brion VIBBER, Vicki Rosenzweig and The Cunctator. All of these users joined in 2001 or early 2002 and do not have an available admin date as best as I can ascertain, dating them all to, most likely, the first wave of sysops (per Administrators#History) in February 2002. If I had to guess, I'd say it's likely all of them were sysopped at around the same time. KaisaL (talk) 22:26, 2 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
That sounds right. We've all been around since 2001 (I was part of the July 26 2001 Slashdotting - on that day created articles on Cybernetics, Marshall McLuhan, GNU/Linux, Ultimate, Philip K. Dick, Cyberpunk, Media studies, Bruce Sterling, Linux, Norbert Wiener). --The Cunctator (talk)

Rickbot

edit

Rick Bot has suddenly removed about 20 administrators from the lists. Only one has been desysopped, and none have made an edit that changed their ranking. What's going on? 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 12:49, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Bots with administrator permission

edit

I considered splitting the list of bots with administrator permission into one list, to better management. Because bots and humans are different and so adminbots should not be counted as active administrators. Thingofme (talk) 10:43, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
