Topics for 29 June 2013

edit

I would be interested in this item from the India Office Records:

  • P 4180/1915 The War: German attempts to fan Islamic feeling, 1915
  • P 949/1919 Appreciation by the War Office of the Russian Situation, a Report for use at Peace Conference

I was unable to access these online at home.Leutha (talk) 10:16, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

P 4180/1915; P 949/1919. For some reason the quoted numbers don't seem to be their actual archive numbers (IOR/L/PS/11/99 and IOR/L/PS/11/148 respectively). Andrew Gray (talk) 19:20, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I tried with a different browser (not Chrome) and they opened OK!Leutha (talk) 23:00, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Digitised MS can be a little flaky at times :-). We should have the TIFFs on the day. Andrew Gray (talk) 23:51, 11 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I would be interested to know if the India Office Records have any accounts of the Ferghana Valley revolt of 1916. This seems to have been an islamic movement, maybe connected to the Jadids. However such movements were sometimes more Pan-turkic than Islamic! Also information about the Battle of Baku (August-Sept 1918) would be interesting.Leutha (talk) 22:16, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Laptops and prerequisites

edit

Will there be computers available? Last time I went to a BL editathon I had to bring a pad and pencil but I know WMUK has some spare laptops just for these situations. Will either these, or anything the British Library itseld has, be available. The description doesn't mention them but then it also doesn't mention any requisites like computers, or even paper notepads. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 18:18, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, there should be some spare laptops available (but please let us know if you're expecting to borrow one). Apologies for the lack of a note; I thought I'd put it here but had got confused with the ROH event! Andrew Gray (talk) 20:06, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. - AdamBMorgan (talk) 09:43, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
