Wikipedia Day is the birthday party for everyone's favorite free encyclopedia, commemorating the launch of this improbable experiment in 2001. Celebrations for Wikipedia Day 16 will be held in cities across the United States (and around the world) on or near Sunday, January 15, 2017.
Because as great as Wikipedia 10 was, a decade of Wikipedia just isn't enough. We're aiming for the centuries, folks!
The advantages of the Wikipedia Day model:
- easy to organize, even for old Wikipedians
- welcoming to everyone, even for new Wikipedians and Wikipedian-wannabes
- tantalizing opportunities for nerdy cakes and cupcakes
- also, it's fun!
In short, Wikipedia Day can be a great easy-in to real life Wikipedia culture, and lead to greater wiki-community and outreach in your corner of the country!
