The Junior Seminar is designed to introduce you to the study of music, conceived broadly. What kinds of questions might we ask about music, and what methods and materials can we use to explore these questions? What skills might you develop over the course of the semester that will both support your work in the department and contribute to your professional life in the future? How might we use our skills and knowledge to make music more accessible and equitable for others? You will be expected not only to explore your current interests, but familiarize yourself with new repertories, approaches, and performance practices. The focus will not only be on composition and musicology, but also other aspects of the music business, such as arts administration, production, teaching, and music journalism.
