This course offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the concepts, themes, issues, and methodological approaches that are central to the study of gender and sexuality and their relationship to other identity categories. Central topics include the social construction of gender, theories of intersectionality, reflecting on power and privilege, and experimenting with different aspects of feminist praxis. Through an analysis of these longstanding topics and the questions they raise, we’ll in turn explore important contemporary issues in the field such as colonized knowledges, trans* rights, #metoo, reproductive justice, and state violence.
