This is an upper-division course cross-listed between History and Gender/Women's Studies. We will cover a range of themes in the history of women, gender, and sexuality in the Middle East and Islamic world with a focus on early modern and modern periods (roughly 1500 to the present) although students are welcome to work on earlier periods. Students will be assigned to improve underdeveloped Wikipedia pages or to create new pages on a case-by-case basis. This will be a semester-long (12-week) assignment in which they will choose pages (with my approval), identify sources, create a bibliography, research, and edit their topics.
