1962 - Elvis Presley's film Kid Galahad premiered. 1963 - Cilla Black auditioned for EMI Records on the recommendation of George Martin. 1965 - Bob Dylan played an electric set at the Newport Folk Festival and was booed by the crowd. 1966 - The Rollings Stones played their last U.S. show with Brian Jones. 1967 - The Beatles were among the signers of a petition urging the British government to legalize marijuana. 1969 - Neil Young appeared for the first time with Crosby, Stills and Nash at the Fillmore East in New York. 1980 - Kiss introduced Eric Carr as their new drummer. 1981 - Two concertgoers die at a Bob Dylan concert in Avignon, France, one from falling on live electrical cables and the other from falling off a wall during the ensuing blackout. 1992 - Bruce Springsteen and Patti Sciafa become parents with the birth of Evan James. 1995 - Nina Simone shot at two teenagers who were being noisy outside her home in southern France. 1999 - The third and final Woodstock festival closed in Rome, NY with riots where 120 people were arrested, the building of a huge fire (which the Red Hot Chili Peppers responded to by playing Hendrix' Fire) and the breaking into of ATM machines. 2000 - Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens announced he was running for the U.S. Senate in New Jersey. 2001 - Mariah Carey checks into a hospital with extreme exhaustion and pulls out of her headline role in MTV's 20th anniversary concert. 2001 - Bonnie Raitt and John Densmore (Doors) are arrested in Chicago for protesting the Boise Cascade Corporation who they said destroyed ancient rainforests. 2002 - LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson, formerly of Destiny's Child, settled out-of-court in over the lyrics of Survivor which they said broke an agreement which stopped disparaging comments from being made by either side. 2003 - Mariah Carey opened her Charmbracelet tour in Las Vegas. 2003 - Pete Doherty of the Libertines is arrested for breaking into an apartment. 2005 - Sony BMG admits to paying radio stations to play some of their label's artists. 2005 - Dave Mustaine sued David Ellefson, alleging that he used the Megadeth name without permission. |
