Scoring rules
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
ScoringeditTo be eligible for submission, improvements must be made to articles tagged with {{HWY}} or a banner of one of its subprojects. The general multiplier for submissions is the square root of the Relative WikiWork of the task force or subproject it belongs to at the beginning of the round, rounded to three decimal places. (Don't worry. I'll do the math.) At the beginning of each round, the multipliers will be recalculated based on the new Relative WikiWork of the task force or subproject. The multiplier table for the current round is located here. Note that nothing can be submitted for points between rounds. Content creationeditThe amount of points each submission is worth is based on the assessed importance level of the page the submission helped improve. Note that creating a missing article as Stub-Class will be ineligible for submission, as it is considered to be no change in assessment for scoring purposes. Creating an missing article as Start-Class will be considered a one-class improvement, and so on.
Any Featured Picture is worth 50 points and any Did you know? blurb is worth 15 points. No multipliers apply to either of these types of submissions because neither benefits the content of any article, and therefore cannot be linked to the importance of an article or to its task force or subproject. For recognized content to count for points, the editor who submitted it for review must have been the main contributor to the article. MediaeditNo multipliers apply to media submissions. EXIF metadata will be used to verify that images were taken during the Cup. If no EXIF metadata is available, points will be awarded as if the media was gathered before the Cup, as proving otherwise is impossible. Media submissions must be used in an article that is tagged with {{HWY}} or a banner of one of its subprojects.
RJL conversionseditConverting route junction lists (RJLs) to use the {{jctint}} family of templates will award points based on the length of the route, similarly to how point awards for KMLs will work. See the table below for specific point values. The general multiplier applies to these conversions, but article importance multipliers do not. Conversion of RJLs 50 miles (80 km) or shorter will be worth two points. For every 0.050 miles (0.080 km) longer than that, the RJL conversion will be worth 0.001 more points. There will be another point added for conversion of RJLs longer than 200 miles (320 km). Project participationeditThe general multiplier applies to project participation submissions, but article importance multipliers do not.
Contestants are allowed to review the Good Article nominations of other contestants, but these reviews are not eligible for submission. The same does not apply to A-Class reviews or Featured Article reviews. At A-Class reviews and Feature Article candidacies, reviews of any kind -- image reviews, spotchecks, prose reviews, etc. -- are eligible for submission, but will only be given points if I feel they are substantial. Contestants should especially keep this in mind when completing image reviews; they tend to be the easiest, least extensive reviews. A-Class reviews and Featured Article reviews of the same article cannot both be submitted for points unless an extensive review is completed at both venues. BonuseseditBonuses must be claimed, just like any other submission. No multipliers apply to bonuses, and each bonus can only be claimed once per round.
SubmissionseditEach user will submit improvements to his or her own submissions page. This page will be a subpage of the HWY Cup page in the WikiProject Highways projectspace. It should also be linked to after the signature of each contestant on the sign-up page. A submissions page should place each type of submission -- media, project participation, etc. -- in a different section. Here is the submissions page I used for last year's USRD Cup, as an example. When submitting improvements for points, the contestant should make sure to include what he or she is submitting for points, along with a diff of the submission, as is exemplified on the example page I have linked. Beginning in Round 2, contestants should add the amount of points they are submitting the improvement for along with the submission. This may help prevent me making errors in scoring. ChallengeseditAny user, regardless of whether he or she is participating in this competition, may challenge any competitor's submissions for points. To do so, he or she should post on that competitor's submissions page. Any contestant may challenge my decisions regarding his own submissions as well, and should do so on his or her own submissions page. A good reason should be given for challenging any submission or decision. Successful challenges are worth a 15-point bonus; unsuccessful challenges will not affect the total score of the challenger in any way. However, repeatedly challenging the submissions of other competitors or my decisions with little to no merit will not be tolerated. Each user must wait four days between challenges, whether or not the challenge was successful. This time is counted starting when he or she files the challenge, not when I respond to it. NoteseditI reserve the right to decline any submissions for points if I feel the contestant is gaming the system. For example, if a contestant sends many articles to GAN at once just after the start of the Cup in a manner he or she would not have normally done, I will more than likely decline most or all of his or her submissions, as I feel this was done for the sole purpose of gaining more points. Remember, the purpose of this contest is to improve the articles of WikiProject Highways; winning is a secondary goal. I also reserve the right to alter the scoring system at any time without notice. The scoring system will most likely be altered between rounds based on what I feel didn't work the way I wanted to during the previous round, but I may also modify it during a round. In the case that an article is within the scope of WikiProject Highways, but not within the scope of any of its task forces or subprojects, the average relative WikiWork for WikiProject Highways will be used as the factor in the general multiplier. In the case that an article is within the scope of multiple task forces, subprojects, or a combination thereof, the Relative WikiWork figures of these task forces and/or subprojects will be averaged, and that figure will be used as the factor in the general multiplier. |
