Portals
The concept of a portal originated in the Polish and GermanWikipedias. In early 2005, the portal concept was imported to the English Wikipedia and the first Wikiportals were established. There are three new portals in addition to the Portal:Germany. The Lüneburg Heath portal gives a brief overview of the region as well as acting as a road map for many of the articles about the Lüneburg Heath in English Wikipedia. The Portal Bavaria of the WikiProject Bavaria deals with article related to the German state of Bavaria, and Hamburg is now represented through the Hamburg portal. Hamburg-related articles are covered by Hamburg task force. A Munich portal is currently dormant looking for a maintainer.
Article Assessment:
There are now way over 39,000 articles (9,000 more then March 2008) tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. If you would like to help take a browse through Articles needing Importance assessment or Articles needing a basic quality assessment.
The Conventions—e.g. covering article naming, the use of German abbreviations or hyphens, and the translation of administrative units—are currently under re-development. New implements are discussed at talk. You can help with your input.
Assessment requests: Some open requests for assessment need to be answered. To see new assessment requests as they come in, you can watchlist the assessment page.
