- Wikipedia:WikiProject United Kingdom (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Music (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- While there already exists a Marching band WikiProject, this does not cover the European (often British) concept of the brass band. Despite sharing some instruments and music, the culture, history and scope is different: marching bands are largely an American ensemble and are focused on marching at sports or military events. On the other hand, brass bands are often grown from working communities, and commonly associated with smaller events and the contesting tradition established in the 19th century.
- This WikiProject would not only focus on the general history of the brass band, but also on specific bands and influences on the culture/history of the pastime (such as the Black Dyke Band, Enderby Jackson and Brassed Off articles above).

Discussion
editComment. User:PotentPotables, have you thought of forming an equal partnership with the aforementioned Marching Band WP and literally merging these sister projects under a new name, like for example "The Marching and Brass Bands WikiProject"? Also, the Marching Band WP with its 57 members is currently "inactive". You could breathe new life to both projects by joining forces in an Anglo-American bands alliance of sorts. Remember that without sufficient active members both projects will fizzle out, but working together as a "super-WikiProject" you will thrive. - User:History DMZ that might be a good idea, but also depends on whether there's enough interest in the inactive marching band project in the first place. How would one go about merging the two projects? PotentPotables (talk) 21:35, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- User:PotentPotables, first let me show you something, take a look at "the graveyard of WPs" by sorting the status column of this Complete List of all WPs. Notice how about 1000 out 2000 WPs remain active (that would mean WPs have a 50% rate of success). And second, to answer your question, its simple, just look at prior examples. Maybe you could ask these guys: Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers, Wikipedia:WikiProject R&B and Soul Music, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome (instead of having dedicated WPs for each major topic, they created a huge one, and all three examples above are still "active" WPs). History DMZ (talk)+(ping) 02:14, 10 April 2020 (UTC). User:PotentPotables, P.S. A quick way to at least "associate" WPs, would be to do this: Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports and games.[reply]
User:PotentPotables, WikiProjects (the groups themselves) are usually not successful when a lone editor wants to create one. Have you considered all the alternatives at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide#Before you begin, or the suggestion above to WP:REVIVE the related group?
