March 31

edit

I'm trying to submit an article about my late friend Jack Arnold (Jazz Musician and Martial Artist). It hasn't been accepted, but I don't know quite what to do to make it pass muster. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Russ Srole Russ Srole (talk) 00:50, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My condolences on the loss of your friend. As with all possible Wikipedia topics, the main "hurdle" to get over is "notability." If a topic has not been sufficiently covered in independent, reliable sources then there is nothing that you, the submitter, can do to change that. I've had to tell a close family member that another close relative who has actually received some significant recognition at different times in his life including a significant award from a national government is not eligible for an article because of the lack of significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. It's not that I didn't want to have an article about him in Wikipedia, it's that I knew that any such article would never get through AFC (and, because of my conflict of interest, I could not create it without having it reviewed by a neutral editor first) or if by some fluke it did, it would wind up being deleted for lack of notability. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:23, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Contesting Deletion

edit

Hi, I had created a page called 'National centre for excellence' which got deleted recently due to copyright violation. I ought to make necessary changes. Therefore i request you to undo this action and I will do the necessary changes so that it does not violate the copyright of any website. Thanking you, Sincerely, Rahulmdinesh — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rahulmdinesh (talkcontribs) 08:55, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rahulmdinesh- Welcome to the Articles for Creation Help desk. You are suggested to better re-create your article from a new end, if it satisfies Wikipedia notability guideline for inclusion. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 11:42, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have just been informed by one of your members that my article Rone (musician) has been declined. May i know the reasons and how can i get things straight so that the article has a chance to be published on Wikipedia? Best regards, Didier — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.139.15.45 (talk) 09:38, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Didier, the submission was declined for the reasons given in and under the pink box at the top of the submission page itself. Click the links in the decline reason for more information on what is required for the submission to be published. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 09:45, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately my article has been just rejected - https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:Irena_Myller/UserGate_Web_Filter#cite_note-5 (by Dodger67).

I don't agree that this article looks like an advertisement. May be I do not have enough experience in writing Wikipedia articles but I tried to stay 100% neutral and in the article there are no unconfirmed facts or opinions.

Anyway if I'm wrong I request to assist me in improving this text. This product (UserGate Web Filter) is used in our campus, that's I've chosen it for my first Wikipedia article. I see plenty of similar articles about other products.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi, I would like to know how I can add images into my article and how I can improve it. Thanks a lot, Cristiana94.7.244.129 (talk) 12:33, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

how to improve the article i sent sir ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harudeek (talkcontribs) 12:37, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you mean User:Harudeek/sandbox, which is about 'Global GAIL Singapore PTE. LTD.. The first step is to determine if this company meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. If it does not, then there is nothing you can to that will allow the submission to be accepted. Most companies do not meet these criteria. If it does, then rewrite the article making reference to media, books, web sites, and the like that are reliable, independent sources which, together, demonstrate that this company has received significant coverage in such places. Make sure that your submission is free of copyright violations and avoid close paraphrasing. Make sure it has a neutral tone and that it doesn't sound like an advertisement. Be sure to read Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not before proceeding. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:12, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have been additional changes to the article I submitted for review but the changes are not being shown when I preview the article. PrecisionMetalformingAssociation (talk) 14:09, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Kristen Fergus[reply]

Note: Article deleted as a copyright violation, above user blocked for inappropriate username and clear promotional intent. Yunshui  14:13, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Review of Prior Park Prep School

edit

Hello,

my page "Prior Park Prep School" was rejected.

Please can you advise why and how this can be resolved?

Many thanks,

PriorParkPrep (talk) 14:39, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The rules on schools are listed as this:

Organizations are usually notable if they meet both of the following standards:

The scope of their activities is national or international in scale.
Information about the organization and its activities can be verified by multiple,[1] third-party, independent, reliable sources.

So it looks like Prior Park Prep is a nonselective school for ages 3 - 13 and draws mostly from the local community, so it probably doesn't fit the first standard.

Hello,

This quick message because the article for submission on Swiss center of accreditation and quality Assurance in Higher education was rejected and I wish to have a feedback on the reasons why?

Waiting for some more information,

Sincerely

Buroaq (talk) 14:53, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Buroaq: The problem is twofold: much of the article reads in a promotional tone, which is because some of the sourcing is from the OAQ website. If you stick to independent third-party sources the article would be more encyclopedic. It occurs to me that perhaps you have a conflict of interest. If you're associated with OAQ then you shouldn't be editing an article about it. Wikipedia is not an advertisement and one could assume you're attempting exactly that. Chris Troutman (talk) 09:19, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I submitted an earlier version of this and had the subject's notability questioned, so I thought I'd come in here and see if this latest version looks clearer on why this company is notable. Any help appreciated!

valereee (talk) 17:58, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been accepted and is now at TreeHouse Foods - congratulations. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:54, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I accidentally re-submitted this article for submission Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Jeremy Lowe when trying to find the rejected article and notes.

I'll re-submit when we have more reliable references/citations.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, you are not able to upload pictures yourself, in which case you should make a request at files for upload.
Note: If you wish to upload a picture of a living person, such as Johnny Cannizzaro, you will likely have to release it under a free license (such as CC-BY or CC-BY-SA). Wikipedia's policy states that "non-free" content must have no free equivalent. Pictures of living people can usually be obtained in public appearances, so this requirement is not fulfilled. What additional citations are needed now?

Hi.

When the article on "Halliday Sutherland" was accepted, the article was prefaced with the comment: "This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (March 2014)".

The reviewer kindly drew my attention to a sentence which did not have a citation and I subsequently fixed this. I believe that the preface should be removed - please would you arrange for a reviewer to do this please.

If there are unsourced information in my article, please would you draw these to my attention for removal or citation (I have reviewed the article closely and have not found any others).

I am very keen to fix up any flaws in the article to (1) produce an article that is a credit to Wikipedia and (2) removes any notice that would deprecate the credibility of the article. Please give me the guidance to do this. RetroAuth (talk) 22:34, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I will take a look at it and add specific tags where I think they would help. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:04, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@RetroAuth - The referencing is ok, imho, but the lead/intro is far too short. It should be a brief summary of the entire article - mention his anti-eugenics position, dispute with Stopes, and the highlights of his career. I added a few wikilinks - some of them are redlinks so there are further articles that want to be written. If you have the sources maybe you'd like to take on one or more of them. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:47, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering how to achieve notability. The article was declined on AfC. However, it has sufficient reliable independent sources. Also I think it should satisfy general notability requirements for WP:BIO. ~~ Sintaku Talk 23:42, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is in that grey area. If it was accepted then nominated for deletion, I'd give it somewhere between a 1 in 3 and 2 in 3 chance of surviving. If there are more mainstream sources, not connected with institutions she is working with or speaking at, those would be good. Mainstream sources are generally better than special-interest publications if someone's notability has not already been demonstrated conclusively. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:45, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There are 4+ sources which are by people not in the academic profession. How many are required. ~~ Sintaku Talk 12:50, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Sintaku: There is no hard and fast number of references required. It's the "collective evidence" that shows that this person has been talked about in some depth by sources which are independent of the subject and which are reliable. Sources which are expected to cover someone whether they are notable or not would be given less weight. For example, if a newspaper as a matter of habit publicized all out-of-town speakers that came to speak at a regular, recurring speaker series, then having an article in that newspaper my not carry much weight when the reviewer is assessing the speaker's notability. On the other hand, if a different newspaper in the same town was much more selective when covering that same event, and only wrote articles about highly-notable speakers, then the coverage should be given greater weight than the same coverage in the less-selective newspaper. It might help if you added an "afc comment" above the text of your submission listing the 4 references you are talking about and linking back to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk#Review of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Kristen Rudisill so future reviewers could focus on those 4 references in their next evaluation. To add an "afc comment," put {{afc comment|1=Your comment goes here ~~~~}} above the ---- but below any other "afc comments". davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:31, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
