Urgent announcements

Then you can help by ending a wikicircus called Siberian language wiki. Not only is the language original research, that was synthetically developed by LiveJournal people, but its supporters use it as a political platform [3], [4] or complete disregard to other topics [5] [6]. Even more amazing is that its founder, the same person who invented it, takes no shame in using offensive terminology like "moscals" in reference to other users. I think the message is clear: Meta:Proposals for closing projects/Close Siberian wikipedia. Don't forget to register an account on Meta with iterwiki link to your standard one before you vote. --Kuban Cossack   14:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Problem with Aratta, and Armenian topics in general

(below conversation copied from my talkpage -- Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 13:55, 22 March 2008 (UTC))

Can you please add back the Ararat statement with Aratta? It has nothing to do with nationalism, Ararat is not a nationalism, its a mountains/land. 75.51.164.173 (talk) 03:44, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I do appreciate that, and I am trying, but what is needed first is a greater awareness and consensus among more editors, of the bias going on there. This is how wikipedia quickly gets divorced from reality. The reality is: Anyone researching Aratta outside of wikipedia can quickly discover that many scholars have speculated as to its possible location being not only in every corner of Iran, but also in adjoining areas like the Caucasus and Afghanistan. The current wikipedia version of reality is: only those scholars who place it in Iran can be mentioned; sources from India or Armenia cannot be mentioned, and references to scholars with Indian or Armenian last names seem to be disqualified a priori. As you have already seen, nearly any account who treats Armenian authors as significant, quickly gets lumped into one nebulous "Ararat Arev" without question or proof, and is conveniently blocked; I have witnessed this going on for well over a year. I suspect the real reason is because Armenian records go back for so many millennia, they are de facto a heresy that must be rooted out and left unmentioned to any would-be revisionist, to whom they are obviously a stumbling-block. Same with Kurdish authors, Assyrian-Aramaean authors, Hungarian authors, and records of just about any people today who have been writing down the things they see around them for a very long time. This war on access to information actually dates back to Soviet times, and the pretext is always cries of "nationalism" (considered an evil to be surreptitiously rooted out according to "global socialism"), but the freedom of internet and wikipedia are at least definite signs that this mentality is seriously starting to outlive itself. It's almost as if every Armenian historian who ever wrote, has been lumped into a single banned account and reverted from many relevant articles on sight. But I am strongly considering raising these points at Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias and Wikipedia:WikiProject Armenia on their behalf -- even though I am not Armenian myself, I am just fascinated and would like to learn more about some things and am finding it unnecessarily difficult. Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 13:55, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Update: This has now gone to medcab mediation at Talk:Aratta; "nationalism" has again come up from this one editor as the pretext to blacklist / suppress the Urartu / Ararat hypothesis, referenced to David Rohl (1998), Merlin Stone (1976), Thomas J. Samuelian (2000, 2004), Andrew Lawler (2004), Artak Movsisan (2001), R. Bedrosian (1993), Yervant Kasouni (1950), many others... Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 22:49, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Second update: The matter of Aratta location hypotheses' section now seems to be nearing a compromise resolution, thanks to the tireless efforts of the medcab mediator! Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 15:04, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Film editors wanted

WikiProject Films has solicited interest in creating a Soviet/CIS cinema task force. We'd like to cordially welcome all regular editors of these articles to voice their interest in starting this task force so as to see if there is sufficient support. Many thanks! Pictures

Is there a marketplace for pictures concerning Armenian issues? Categories for pictures re Armenian themes are a little bit poor at the moment. Does anyone have an idea how to advance them? Does Wikimedia Commons work the same way like other wikis? And I would like to share scanned photos [8] for other articles. I am not going to use these pictures outside German wikipedia. I will scan a lot more pictures of the late Ottoman time. Apocolocynthosis (talk) 11:11, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Problems with Hayq, Sari

Hayq, Sari is a stub in Category:Armenian cuisine. Presumably "Hayq, Sari" refers to a proprietary brand of spring water, but when I recently looked at the article, I found it absolutely unintelligible. Please see my comments/questions on Talk:Hayq, Sari#Need to clarify and try to help me at least in two respects: (a) What is the meaning of the two words "Hayq" and "Sari"? (b) What does the comma in "Hayq, Sari" signify? If I can get this information, I will try to salvage the article. Otherwise, I will have to propose it for deletion (lack of notability, no encyclopedic content, too short, etc.). --Zlerman (talk) 22:08, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Georgia

Hello. Please look here and express your opinion on Georgia-related categories. I am writing here, because WikiProject Georgia seems quite inactive. Thanks. - Darwinek (talk) 10:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Cuisine of Armenia: unidentified dishes (October 2008)

I have tagged with "citation needed" a number of unidentified (and red-linked) Armenian dishes in Cuisine of Armenia. I cannot trace these dishes in all my sources and I do not know what they stand for. Could anyone with Armenian background and familiarity with real Armenian food help – at least with some of the dishes? Thanks. --Zlerman (talk) 05:22, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Zlerman, I added a couple of references to some of the dishes and removed others. There's one called Matsnaprtosh that I think is a dish based on the name... Matsn comes from matsun with means yoghurt but I'm not sure what the dish is exactly. - Fedayee (talk) 02:35, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your important edits. As I understand, you believe that Amarva khorovadz does not exist and that gazoz is simply generic. Perfect. Now, you have added the Armenian script for Sarnapour: if this sounds differently from Sarnapour, then please provide the Anglicized transliteration; if the pronunciation is Sarnapour, then we should take the Armenian script out for consistency. Last point: please look at the dubious article Hayq, Sari and let me know if you have any insights or advice on that. Many thanks again! --Zlerman (talk) 02:59, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
No problem! The reason why I added the Armenian script to Sarnapour is because the external link reference does not only have Sarnapour as it has a lot of content so it would be easier for people to find it in there just by doing a 'ctrl + f' search for it but remove it if you want for consistency. For Hayq, Sari, it seems like it's a brand name of mineral water to me, similar to Jermuk although it seems to be less known than Jermuk. - Fedayee (talk) 03:37, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
