editAnswers.com and Wikimedia Foundation to Form New Partnership
editIn a press release on October 20, 2005, Answers.com announced a new partnership with the Wikimedia Foundation. Answers.com will launch a Wikipedia Edition of their 1-Click Answers software. Revenues from this service will be shared with the Wikimedia Foundation, who will license the use of their trademarks for this purpose for a 60-day trial, starting in January 2006. The trial period will enable us to get a preliminary reading on the potential revenue from the arrangement, and to take a look at how they are using our trademarks. It will also allow both parties to see whether the partnership is good for them or not. The revenues are generated from people who choose to download the Wikipedia edition of the software clicking on the adverts on the Answers.com website.
The prominence of any links to the service on Wikipedia will be left entirely up to the community. This is not a pay-for-placement deal. This respect for the community is absolutely insisted upon by both Bob Rosenschein of Answers.com and Jimbo Wales.
For further information on the closed source software, please see the product information page, the terms of use and privacy policy of Answers Corporation. Softpedia has certified the software as being free from adware, spyware and viruses. The software is covered by a software patent, which Answers.com is currently seeking to enforce in court.
The Wikimedia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a vision to bring a free encyclopedia to every single person on the planet. This includes people who currently do not have electricity, computers, internet, or even clean drinking water. All proceeds from this fundraiser, as with all proceeds from all our fundraisers, will be fully dedicated to that charitable purpose.
