Sometimes, a Wikipedia administrator will request the removal of their administrator rights, remove all evidence that they ever were an admin, and then run for adminship again. This causes many confused editors to support them for adminship saying "I Thought They Were One Already!", slowly driving the community mad.
But seriously
editAt many requests for adminship, one or more support voters will comment that they thought the candidate was already an admin. This expression has become so commonplace that this essay was created after an editor using this cliche recommended that someone write an essay about it.
When editors say this about a candidate for adminship, that is usually a good sign that the candidate is engaging in a level of work and a quality of interaction which makes for an excellent administrator.
