ISIS on the Philippines / Las Vegas Massacre

edit

As ISIS has claimed right away responsibility right after, and the 100.000 USDollars Paddock wired to the Philippines, i was wondering that after the Philippines Security and armed Forces have recently battled against a ISIS Stronghold at some Island (???), if the Terror Org. has been successfully beaten, or do they still exist there, as that News has internationally came out of Focus ? Thanks therefor if someone can shed some light upon that. --2001:7E8:D206:4501:FCF0:6491:B312:87B4 (talk) 18:28, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. But there stands nothing about ISIS ?? --2001:7E8:D206:4501:FCF0:6491:B312:87B4 (talk) 19:20, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How about...

One thing to understand is that the Philippines' terrorist groups were never truly a part of ISIS. They found it convenient to claim that they were, when ISIS was successful, but now that ISIS is in retreat, they may no longer find it convenient to claim so. Any actual cooperation between them was always quite minimal. And note that ISIS did the same, and claimed to be a part of al-Qaeda, back when it was the predominant terrorist org. However, ISIS "central command" is providing support to the Philippine branch:

According to that source: "The Islamic State’s ability to financially support its Philippine offshoots appears limited mainly to periodic Western Union transfers of tens of thousands of dollars, the report found, suggesting that direct support from Syria was a relatively minor factor in the Maute Group’s ability to seize Marawi. The report argues that local recruiting and fund-raising among pious Muslims who resented the Philippines’ central government have probably played a more significant role in the insurgents’ successes." Tens of thousands of dollars isn't much on the scale of money ISIS once possessed, in the billions, and certainly not enough to overthrow the government of the Philippines. Yes, but it does indicate direct contact and coordination, as well as providing "international recruits to help local militants seize territory in the Philippines for the caliphate." 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:65A7:28DA:7F79:4E50 (talk) 21:35, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
