Chemical industry in Alberta

edit

What's the closest town/habitation/industrial site to Jasper, Alberta which has a significant chemical industry? This is related to a fictional disaster scenario I have in mind (see the "Chemical leak" question at the Science ref desk): an avalanche at Marmot Basin has hit the Banff-Jasper road and sent a tanker truck full of sulfuric acid into an obstruction, causing it to spring a leak -- so the rescue team will have to borrow an empty, corrosion-resistant tanker truck and sling it to the disaster site so they could offload the leaking tanker. Where's the nearest place they can find one of those? 24.5.122.13 (talk) 00:12, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There's a real-life company called "Haulin' Acid" which specifically transports acids, solvents and other chemicals for the oil and gas industries, and is based in Red Deer, Alberta which is about 5–6 hours drive away from Marmot Basin. --Canley (talk) 06:20, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Is that closer than Edmonton? (More importantly, how long would it take a Chinook helicopter to get from Jasper to Red Deer and back?) 24.5.122.13 (talk) 07:07, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind the last part -- I just measured the distances on Google maps, and the distance from Jasper to Red Deer is marginally less than to Edmonton, but a CH-47 Chinook would still take almost an hour each way. Looks like Rescue 1 (the ad-hoc team I've put together) will need help from the RCAF for this part of the job... 24.5.122.13 (talk) 07:17, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
