editThe plot involves Earth people accepting an invitation to visit another star system in a loaned, non-FTL starship (loaned because humanity is incapable of interstellar travel). One of the protagonists is a super smart dwarf(?) nicknamed Junior(?) and the leader of the expedition is "Whitey"(?) and has an unusual last name.
