I have a question about getting autographs

edit

Do you know where I can get a personalized autograph of Ted Raimi or Bruce Campbell Since the Xena Conventions no longer happen I don't know where to try? I watch now on Ash vs Evil Dead. I would also like an autograph of Elizabeth Banks who played Rita Replusa in the new power rangers movie. Is there a database of where to write to celebrities to? fanmail.biz is kinda out of date 204.239.8.205 (talk) 02:40, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Many times if you visit the actor's website, you can find out their agency (agent/manager) contact information. Simply by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with a request for an autograph will yield a result. Ted Raimi Contact, Bruce Campbell Contact, Elizabeth Banks Contact. Good luck!

First releases of American films elsewhere

edit

What are primary reasons that some American films have their first theatrical releases in countries other than US itself? More recently, Ghost in the Shell, for instance, had its theatrical release in Poland around 29 March (which I watched), two days before US release. Marketing? --Jayron32 22:56, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what is primary but here are some general reasons for different opening days, both before and after the US:
  • Local holidays and other events increasing or decreasing film interest.
  • Competition from other opening films in the country.
  • Cast and crew being available for local promotion near the opening.
  • When it's only days: Local traditions and profitability for day of the week to open a film like that. Films usually open Friday in the US (can include Thursday evening previews). In the past a big film often opened Wednesday in the US. Not sure why that stopped, maybe because of increased marketing value in announcing a big opening weekend box office and that excludes days before Friday (except Thursday evening previews). Some countries do include days before Friday in the official opening weekend box office.
  • In China the authorities decide when and whether a US film may open. There is a trade agreement allowing a certain number of US films to play yearly. In the past none were allowed.

For a concrete example of PrimeHunter's point, our article on Prometheus (2012 film) notes that this movie was released in 15 markets a week before it opened in North America to avoid competition with the start of the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship.
