Have a look at Movie camera. --TammyMoet (talk) 10:36, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That is part of it, but also, cinematic techniques had not been developed. The early films were more or less stage plays with a camera placed at the fourth wall. Britmax (talk) 10:52, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Matte (filmmaking) talks about early uses of this type of "double exposure", and by having the camera fixed, it would have made the matte process much easier. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots12:54, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
However, the camera did sometimes move - the camera dolly was apparently invented in 1907 and first used in a major film - Cabiria - in 1914.[1]
Similarly, the word pan was used in connection with moviemaking as early as 1913. The OED Online quotes a piece from the Saturday Evening Post that used it that year. --69.159.61.230 (talk) 04:11, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
