70's "hippie" song

edit

I heard a song from the 1970's last night, and had no idea who it was by. It was done in a speak-singing style similar to Johnny Cash but it was not Cash. The story in the song: A long-haired hippie-ish man's car breaks down in the deep South. He walks into a bar, but to avoid ridicule for his hair, tucks it beneath his hat. A group of locals arrive, and one ornery man tells the narrator to tip his hat for the ladies. Obviously, his hair falls out of his hat, and the locals jeer him. Then, the narrator kicks the man in the knee and tells the man's friend the man is a communist. By then, the narrator's car is fixed just in time for him to escape. What is this song?? 75.73.226.36 (talk) 00:03, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
