similar sound or something else?

edit

I was watching on episode of Emergency! on hulu. Before the opening credits, Johnny was in the vehicle bay, working on the squad. While that was happening, Roy was in the locker room, gargling warm salt water. Johnny and Chet went to see what the ruckus was about. When Roy was on his third gargle, Johnny and Chet came into the locker room. Chet remarked the gargling sounded like the percussion section of a rock group. How can that be?69.203.157.50 (talk) 07:38, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I expect he just meant it was very loud and unpleasant. --Anonymous, 19:15 UTC, June 18, 2009.

Perhaps, but Roy was trying to defend his own actions without being hassled about them.69.203.157.50 (talk) 04:15, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Queen song

edit

What the heck is it with the Fairy Feller's Masterstroke? It's beyond surreal, yet it's from early in their career when they'd have had less clout about what fills their albums. There must be a story behind this... yet we have no article... --Dweller (talk) 13:33, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is a section about it on the Queen II article. There just isn't enough to justify making an article all by itself. -- kainaw 13:35, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant, thanks. Now, if only someone could make the panning (audio) article understandable to an educated layman, that'd be perfect. --Dweller (talk) 13:56, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It just means that you take a sound and move it from the right ear to the left ear and back. -- kainaw 14:15, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Thanks. If only the article had said that! --Dweller (talk) 14:25, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

longest rock and roll song

edit

What is the longest rock song to be rated Top 40? 65.121.141.34 (talk) 16:01, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Longest as in a really long song (such as Thick as a Brick) or the longest run on the Top 40 (such as How Do I Live)? Neither example is the longest - just what I know off the top of my head as being long. But, they are two completely different interpretations to your question. -- kainaw 17:33, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Longest in terms of song length. 65.121.141.34 (talk) 18:15, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but more clarification is needed. Consider Do You Feel Like We Do. It is a 17-minute song. The 7-minute version was #1 on the charts, not the 17-minute version. However, it is often referred to a 17-minute song that was #1 in the charts (which is not entirely true). This is similar to Shine On You Crazy Diamond - a very long song with a much shorter single. Do you want to limit this to the length of the single that charted or the length of the original song? -- kainaw 18:46, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The length of the single charted. I had considered the Floyd song, but then learned they didn't chart with the complete song. 65.121.141.34 (talk) 19:46, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, the charted version is barely over 4 minutes. Stairway to Heaven, on the other hand, charted with the 8:02 version. Just checking... The single version of Hey Jude is 7:12, longer than the 7:05 album version (weird). -- kainaw 20:29, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Neither "Stairway to Heaven" nor "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" were released as singles at the time of their parent album being released. The former has come out as a single on various promo/anniversary releases, and has charted as a download, but those don't count. --Richardrj talk email 09:57, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't they count, exactly? Algebraist 10:15, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. I have not placed a stipulation that the song must have charted during the initial release and I do not believe that the questioner has either. If that stipulation is made, the longest rock song will surely be something much more recent since the 45 single placed a physical limit on how long a single could be. Digital singles have removed that limit. -- kainaw 13:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What was the length of the charted single for November Rain (album version was 8:57)? The article talks about a ~4 min acoustic version but that's not it. American Pie says there were two singles (part 1 was 4:11 and part 2 was 4:31). Can we add them up? Zain Ebrahim (talk) 13:40, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dry County by Bon Jovi is almost 10 minutes, did it chart full length? 65.121.141.34 (talk) 15:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's TelevisionMarquee Moon, which hit top 40 in the UK (not released in the US) and is 9:58 – while even that isn't the full album version, it still ended up taking up both sides of a 7". (It's also a brilliant, brilliant song for what it's worth. :D) AllynJ (talk | contribs) 01:39, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer than They Are is a contender. Top 40 USA/UK hit at 10.15 assuming the single wasn't an edited version. Exxolon (talk) 01:54, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That might also be a contender for the song with the longest name. -- JackofOz (talk) 23:13, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not even close. Algebraist 23:19, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I should have said a contender for the song with the longest name that actually makes any kind of sense. -- JackofOz (talk) 12:12, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that in the UK, the longest rock song (indeed, longest song in any genre) to chart in the Top 40 on one side of a 7" single (not split across two sides) is Grand Funk Railroad's cover of Inside-Looking Out, which is 9:00. --88.110.22.71 (talk) 09:49, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was under the impression that O Superman by Laurie Anderson (at 8:21 and not at all "rock") was the longest UK Top 10 single (at least it was at the time of its release). Astronaut (talk) 16:03, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can anyone tell me if July 10th is the universal release date for this film? And/or do you know when it'll be out in Sweden? Thanks v. much in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.3.61.125 (talk) 20:50, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can find release dates at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0889583/releaseinfo. That says July 10 in Sweden. Who then was a gentleman? (talk) 21:03, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's perfect! Thanks very much!! 86.3.61.125 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:09, 18 June 2009 (UTC).[reply]
