Wikipedia:Proposed deletion (drafts)

Proposed deletion (drafts) is an extension of the proposed deletion process to cover Drafts. Its purpose is to reduce the load on the miscellany for deletion process, for cases in which a draft is stale but fails to meet the criteria for speedy deletion. If no editor objects after 7 days, the draft is reviewed by an uninvolved admin, who will either delete the draft or remove the PROD tag. The draft may be restored upon request.

There are three steps:

  1. A draft is nominated for deletion by placing the {{subst:draft-prod}} tag at the top of the page.
  2. If anyone objects to the deletion, usually by removing the prod tag, the proposal fails and the draft cannot be put forward for proposed deletion for a period of six months. However, the draft can be sent to miscellany for deletion for further discussion.
  3. After 7 days the draft can be deleted by an uninvolved administrator.

This process applies to both drafts in the draft namespace and those in user space.

Nominating

edit

Before nomination

edit

Make sure the draft meets all of the criteria below:

  • The draft must either be in the Draft namespace or userspace. Pages in userspace proposed for deletion must be clearly identifiable as a draft.
  • The draft must have received no edits in over six months. Vandalism, reversion of vandalism, and automated edits are exempted.
  • The draft must not have been proposed for deletion in the past year.
  • The draft must not be currently being discussed at MfD.

Nomination

edit
  1. Add {{subst:draft-prod}} to the top of the page. Make sure to provide an edit summary noting that the article is being proposed for deletion. Do not mark the edit as minor.
  2. Consider adding the draft to your watchlist
  3. The creator of the draft, and any major contributors should ideally be notified. This is done by leaving {{subst:DPRODWarning}} on the users talk page. If the draft is within userspace the user in question must be notified.

Restoring a draft

edit

Any draft deleted through a prod should be restored on request of the creator of the draft. Any other user can also ask for the draft to be undeleted, either by appealing directly to the deleting administrator, or through Requests for Undeletion.
