Lyndhurst, New Jersey Map Error

Hello,

I was reading the article Lyndhurst, New Jersey, and I noticed that where there was supposed to be a highlighted version of the Bergen County map showing Lyndhurst's location, there was no highlight. Is there any way I can fix this? Maybe someone else would highlight it? Thanks!

MAP91 (talk) 03:20, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there and happy new year. The best thing to do in this case is tell the person who uploaded the image of the error so that they can fix it themselves. It's usually easiest for them since they usually already have the image on their computer and the needed software to make any changes. The author of this image, Arkyan (talk · contribs) hasn't edited in about a month, though, and may be taking a break; He's got a note that he might not reply to things quickly on his talk page. If you leave him a note, but he doesn't reply or fix the problem after a while, you might want to be bold and fix the problem yourself. There's this archived version of the image that has a highlighted town and could be reverted to, but since it was overwritten I don't know if it's correct. Since the image is hosted on Wikimedia Commons, come back for further instructions if you don't get a timely reply and need to revert or upload a new image. Cheers! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 12:26, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Elipongo, and happy new year to you as well. I will try the things you suggested and try to verify the previous version of the map. If that's not correct, I will try to get in touch with Arkyan. Thanks again!

My name is Dieter Maschesky, I am German and to say it first, to me wikipeda is the gretest source of infortion on the Internet. Of course with all thos many issues there will always be disputes, like The Persion Gulf issue. No one in Germany for example would know what the Arab Gulf is.

However, I would just asked for one issue to be deald with or audited very carefully. I read the page Siemens AG and I stopped at the paragraph

QUOTE Bribery Case

Siemens is currently investigated for serious bribery, that involve Heinz-Joachim Neubürger, former chief financial officer, Karl-Hermann Baumann, another former CFO and exchairman, and Johannes Feldmayer, a former management board member. [10]. The investigation has found questionable payments of roughly €1.3 billion, or $1.9 billion, from 2002 to 2006 that have triggered a broad range of inquiries in Germany, the United States and many other countries. [11]

In May 2007 a German court convicted two former executives of paying about €6 million in bribes from 1999 to 2002 to help Siemens win natural gas turbine supply contracts with Enel, an Italian energy company. The contracts were valued at about €450 million. Siemens was fined €38 million. UNQUOTE

Firstly, every person is innocent until sentenced guilty. So, to be fair you should refrain from letting anyone in any case cite "currently under investigation". Secondly, why does the last sentence not have a citing mark?

Last, but not least and utmost important to me is citing a newspaper articel as evidence. Remeber one man's terrorist is another man's hero.

Citing a judgement yes, citing an official Government announcement yes, - but newspapers and the like, no. By avoiding the latter you would save yourself a lot of troubel and work, I am sure.

In any case, keep up the good work and have a succesful New Year.

Dieter Maschesky

Hello Dieter and thank you for note. Issues with particular articles are best brought up on that article's own talk page so that editors directly involved in working on that particular article can respond. That particular article's talk page is located at Talk:Siemens AG. Regarding your more general point about using "newspapers and the like" as references, I'm afraid that your opinion runs counter to the current consensus as to what constitutes a reliable source. Newspapers and other such secondary sources are actually preferred since the jobs and careers of people there rely on their credibility. For example, the fallout from the Adnan Hajj photographs controversy resulted in people getting fired and likely blacklisted. I hope this addresses your concerns, have a happy new year! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 12:55, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Regarding "one man's terrorist is another man's hero", that is why Wikipedia:Neutral point of view is an important official policy at Wikipedia. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Beginner's Wiki Markup

Hello, I'm pretty new at editing/creating pages and upkeep, and I do not know much about Wiki Markup. Is there some easy introduction page to it, or could you recommend something to help me learn it? It looks like a daunting task, and I just don't know how to get started. Are there any beginner's courses? The same goes for userboxes, user page design, and most things to do with Wikipedia besides the bare basics. Thanks! MAP91 (talk) 19:37, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Sure is - Wikipedia:Tutorial. For the more specific things, you may have to go to the general page for that thing and search around to see if there's anything helpful - for example, the "See also" section at Wikipedia:Userboxes seems to have some helpful links for the newbie userboxer. And of course there is here, and the help desk where very few people will bite your head off for asking basic questions. Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 21:33, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Need help deciphering Image use policy

I'd like to add a picture to the Blue-winged Macaw article because I think it could really use one. I've found one using Google which seems to have been taken by a professional photographer. If I wanted to email him to find out what kind of license it has or get his permission to use it on Wikipedia, what information do I need to get from him? I checked the image use policy but found it confusing. Plesiosaur (talk) 16:31, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Images used on Wikipedia, unless they can make a fair use claim (and something like this probably wouldn't), need to be released under a free license such as the GFDL, or one of the Creative Commons licenses (I think CC-BY and CC-BY-SA are the two that are compatible with Wikipedia's use of the GFDL). What you need to do is:

(1) Get the photographer to agree to release his photo under one of these licenses (this is the tricky part, because the licenses Wikipedia uses allow anyone to reuse the content for just about any purpose, including commercial ones, without paying royalties). (2) Upload the photo (since it will be under a free license, it should be put up on Commons). (3) Get the photographer to email (permissions at wikimedia dot org) to confirm that he agrees to release his photo under said license.

There are a couple of other ways to do this, but this is probably the easiest. Good luck! Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 22:27, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Needs help with Wikitionary articles

Hello, I am Stoical Iceman. I need help with a decent wikitionary article for a word in Latin. I am hoping that this time it does not get deleted so abruptly. I would like to make decent contributions to this site without being rebuked so silently swift for a few rules I haven't grasped yet. Is there anyone who is willing to teach me the basics of making a lasting and decent article, or even an entry? I would appreciate the experience, and no doubt utalize it for myself. Thank you. Stoical Iceman (talk) 14:54, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

In the edit summary Dmol posted after reverting your contribution it says "copy vio removed". Wiktionary, like Wikipedia, requires contributions to be licensed under a free content license. Searching for the quoted text you added does indeed reveal it to be taken from elsewhere. That was the reason it got removed - (possible) copyright violation. Even if the text was taken from a public domain source, you would still need to state that in the edit summary. I also believe you can borrow facts as they cannot be copyrighted, but not actual sentences. Although I am surprised Dmol didn't simply try to reword it or something. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 15:21, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
(ec) While I hope someone here is able to help you, this is a help page for Wikipedia. For help with Wiktionary, you might want to try the information desk there. Algebraist 15:23, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that you two, but the article on that (conundrum) is too much for me at the moment and there is no reason for me to go back on that unless it's to get banned. However, I had last posted up an entry on ex animo and yes it was from a reference book, I'll look under your links before I ask anymore questions. . .

All right, it just so happens that Dictionary.com has the same (if not similar) wording that my reference does. I am thinking to myself how can I post up this entry without it looking to plagiarized? Because that's what I was basically doing. Then you said that I can state my reference, or source in the edit summary. That I would love to do for the sake for it to be professional and worthy of staying. I'll be going to wikitionary.
Well this web page says that definition is Copyright 2001 by Douglas Harper. So it is apparently not public domain, and probably can't be included verbatim even if you state the source. I'm really not sure if copyright applies to just the wording, or to the discovery of the history as well, because I have an Oxford dictionary of Word Histories here which gives an almost completely different origin for that word. You really should ask at Wiktionary's Information desk because Wikipedians are not familiar with the Wiktionary rules on sources and stuff. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 17:16, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Ratings system?

Wait, is there a ratings system in wikipedia? when I look on my watch list I see green numbers and red numbers. What is that for? I am not sure where to look for that in the Help desk, please assist. Stoical Iceman (talk) 15:25, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

The green and red numbers refer to the number of bytes size difference between the previous revision of the page and the new one. For example, (+120), means that the last change made the page 120 bytes bigger. (For Latin (English) letters this corresponds to the number of characters added or removed, although Japanese characters (for example) would take up two bytes each.)
There is also a form of rating system however, although not all articles have a rating. See Wikipedia:Assessment. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 15:34, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that Anakin, by the way, I would like to try again with the article of Ex animo. Possibly some other time when I get my questions and answers together, as well as an explination too.Stoical Iceman (talk) 16:10, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Abbreviations

Can anyone please tell me how to format an article (or simply its name) so that it is possible to search for it by either the full name or the abbreviation. For example, formatting it so users get the same result if they search for BBC or British Broadcasting Corporation. Thank you. --Fmshand (talk) 17:10, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

What you want to do is create a redirect page. One of the pages has the full content, and the other just redirects to it. In the example you gave, BBC is the full article (because it's the more common name for it) and British Broadcasting Corporation is the redirect. Here's what the source of the redirect page looks like. Have a read of Wikipedia:Redirect to find out how to create them. :) • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 17:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

It's probably not a good idea. The Wikipedia autobiography guideline discourages this due to the conflict of interest involved. If you had a Wikipedia account, as short autobio on your user page would be OK. Otherwise, you should probably wait for someone else to create the article about you; if you're notable enough, it should happen sooner on later. Algebraist 15:27, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

How to remove the tag questioning "notablity" from the top of an updated article?

I've spent a lot of time expanding and adding references to an article about Peter H. Reynolds - my favorite children's book author and illustrator. His article has a note at the top saying it's been tagged because "This article may not meet the general notability guideline" - and if notability isn't established, it might be deleted. I've provided a great deal of referenced information about this author and his published work - including many of the awards he's received as the result of his work. I hope this is adequate information and references to establish notability.

My question is - how do I have this article reviewed again, now that I've updated it, and how do I have the message questioning notability removed from the top of the page? This is the first Wikipedia article I've ever worked with, but I assumed I couldn't remove that top tag/message myself. I'd appreciate any help.. Fablefriend (talk) 22:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

The tag on Peter H. Reynolds (author) advises: "The best way to address this concern is to reference published, third-party sources about the subject." You should read the linked reference article. You should also read about reliable sources. You provided several references but they were not third-party sources; they are tied too closely to the subject. Can you find any newspaper articles about the subject? One of his books appeared on the New York Times best seller list. That would be a good third-party source. Can you find a URL to that list? The key to demonstrating notability is to provide verifiable references to reliable sources. Sbowers3 (talk) 23:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I would say the Borders award nomination comes close, but I agree that a more substantial third-party reference would go a long way towards the notability. As for the tag itself, you can actually remove it yourself if you believe the concerns have been addressed - in other words, be bold. However, if someone else decides that the article still isn't up to scratch, then they may re-add the tag, at which point the way to go to avoid an edit war is to go to the article's discussion page (or "talk page") and sort things out there. Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 23:10, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. In the past hour, since your response, I've added two links from the New York Times website that listing the "Best Seller" lists in which a book he illustrated appear. I've also linked a very recent, very extensive Boston Globe article about Peter H. Reynolds and his work. I also clarified that the Carnegie Medal of Excellence he received is from the American Library Assocation. Oh, I just looked and noticed the tag was removed. Thanks! I do want to keep working on this article - and I wanted to be "up to snuff", as far as Wikipedia is concerned. I eventually want to list all his books and films in a table, along with all the awards they've received. That might be an even better way of showing "notablity". Thanks again for your help! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fablefriend (talkcontribs) 00:02, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

One of your links in turn linked to a Boston Globe article. Boston Globe is a reliable source and is a good reference to demonstrate notability. After adding that reference I removed the notability tag. The best thing you could do is find other reliable sources (e.g. newspapers) to replace the references to the web sites that are associated with the subject. It also would be helpful if you changed the raw http references with the "cite" template as you can see I used. Sbowers3 (talk) 00:05, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I really appreciate all your advice. There's another recent Boston Globe article that I'll include as well. One reason I did use the subject's website(s) as references is because I researched the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons page and it is stated there: "Self-published material may never be used in BLPs unless written by the subject him or herself. Subjects may provide material about themselves through press releases, personal websites, or blogs." For that reason, I thought the subject's website would be considered a "reliable source" for at least some aspects of the article, such as where the subject was born, etc. Are there other resources you could suggest besides newspaper articles? The author has bios on publishers' websites - such as the Candlewick website, etc - would those be considered a "reliable third party" source, or too close to the subject? Fablefriend (talk) 01:43, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

William Gedney

Hi, I was working on creating the William Gedney article and got a notice of copyright infringment. I didn't even get the chance to mark references. William Gedney is my cousin and the information I was using was public content. Not only that it took my words and removed them and then copied the entire article - that I was not using. Please remove William Gedney and I will again attempt to make a new article about him. Thank you.Outnbynd78 00:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry about removing it. Instead, create a draft page called User:Outnbynd78/William Gedney. You can work on it there until it's done, without much worry of anyone interrupting your efforts. They can, but you can revert them because it's a subpage of your userpage. After you have prepared it, along with sources, to the point that you are reasonably sure others won't object, post a proposal on the article's talk page to replace it with your draft. If there are no objections after a few days, copy it over the article. The Transhumanist 02:55, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Questions regarding adding a public domain map to Wikipedia

Good Morning, I'm attempting to ad a correct, up to date map on the FasTracks program. I work at RTD-FasTracks in Denver Colorado for the Public Information office. Our office has personally created this map. It does not have a copy write. It is open and free for public use. I've tried inserting the picture and filling out the proper forms but keep getting a disclaimer on my picture and it's deleted after a few days.

This is a public domain - self created image. Exactly how do I need to go about saying that so the image uploads and remains in the topic field.

Thanks so much for your assistance.

Ozgirlcsp (talk) 17:00, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there and thanks for writing. As far as I can tell, the file Image:FTsystMapNoStrt.jpg was only deleted because you uploaded Image:FasTracks 2008 Map.jpg which was detected to be the identical image. If your question relates to something else, please clarify.
I should point out that despite what you've written above, in the image licensing you have asserted yourself as the copyright holder and licensed it out under the GNU Free Documentation License. If the image is supposed to be in the public domain, then you might want to replace the GFDL-self-no-disclaimers template on the image with an appropriate public domain template from here.
I also noticed that the image isn't being used anywhere, did you want to add it to the Regional Transportation District article?
Lastly, freely licensed and public domain images are most appropriately uploaded to Wikimedia Commons so that it can be used on all the different Wikimedia projects (e.g. any of the foreign language Wikipedias), not just here on the English language Wikipedia.
Hopefully I haven't thrown too much information at you all at once. If you need clarification, feel free to ask! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 19:46, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

In the article on The_Adventures_of_Tintin, there is a link to Norbert Wallez that didn't connect. I looked it up on Google, and there it was in the Spanish Wikipedia. Google translated it fairly well. I wondered what the policy was about taking something such as that and copying it over to the English version. Dale662 (talk) 16:38, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, you can begin by using the Google translation of the article in Spanish to translate it into English. After that, use the text there (but not the images) and paste it into the article in English. After that, place a translation template at the top of the article in English that looks like this:
Spanish
The code for the template is Spanish. I hope this works. Johnny Au (talk) 17:11, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
You can also add the link into the Spanish Wikipedia with es:Norbert Wallez at the bottom of the article. This is a foreign language link using the code es referring to the language's name in that language, which in this case is español. Johnny Au (talk) 17:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
There is also an article in French at fr:Norbert Wallez. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:29, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

redirecting page due to different way of spelling due to capitalization

Hi, I've looked through the FAQ and know that my answer lies somewhere in "redirecting due to capitalization" but I've tried to do it and it's just not working for me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Help.

Problem: The title of the article I created Gina DeVivo can only be seen if you type it as Gina DeVivo. Most people will just type "gina devivo" but that won't bring them to the site. I can't figure out what or where I need to put the info to have it get redirected.

Thanks for the guidence! Also could you notify me on my talk page. I'm still having a hard time learning this site so I may not find my way back here. Thanks again.

Kim RingPOPmom (talk) 11:50, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Since you created the article, I know you know how to create a page. Do so for each alternate name of the article for which you think a redirect should exist, i.e., create a page for the name gina devivo. Place in each such created new page the text: #REDIRECT Gina DeVivo, and nothing else. Save the page. Voila. Anyone who types the name of the page you created will be redirected to the main article. For further information, please see Wikipedia:Redirect. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:22, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
In addition, when creating redirects, there are special templates that should be included that explain the purpose of the redirect, such as it being an alternate name, a sub-subject, other spelling, etc. It's all explained at WP:Redirect. Deletion of images

I would like to know why my images of XDC were deleted? I've tried several time to put images (with new information, sources,...) but each time, they are deleted. I don't understand what is wrong... I'm currently a trainee of this company, so they give me the autorization for all the images I put on Wikipedia. What can I do?Xdc-evs (talk) 12:53, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

You can stop spamming Wikipedia for your company. The images were deleted for various reasons, including WP:CSD#G11, WP:CSD#I1, WP:CSD#I5, WP:CSD#I14, WP:CSD#I19, etc. The real point is that so far you account has been used only for blatant advertizing purposes, as was your reason for uploading all these images. You have been blocked for 24 hours once for advertising, which obviously didn't get the point across since your asking for help here to upload more images for spam purposes. Do not upoad these images and do not make edits promoting your company.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Notability IN an article?

Hi, im trying to determine what information in a living person biography should be included as notable. I'm trying to fix Susan Bratton, which reads like a resume/advertisement. I'm not sure if this woman is even notable enough for Wikipedia. A lot of the content of the article is just over-the-top promotion. where can I find a guide to what content should be included (such as her companies, etc), and what shouldn't (such as where her family will move, how many facebook friends she has, etc)? thanks - --Daveblack (talk) 15:32, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello. A good place to see some relevant guidance is at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Also if you're concerned about the subject's notability in general, you can tag the article with the notability template. Cheers! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 16:01, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Notability (people) (aka WP:BIO) is the guideline. My quick summary is that notability must be able to be verified through references to reliable sources. To oversimplify, if there are newspaper articles with enough information to write about a subject, then that subject is notable and those articles can verify the information in the Wikipedia article. If you cannot find newspaper web sites that provide information for an article, then the subject is not notable or verifiable and should be deleted. Sbowers3 (talk) 00:55, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Making footnotes work

Hi there!

I've just a fairly major expansion of the listing below. There are 45 footnotes in all.

http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Harbhajan_Singh_Yogi#External_links

The problem is the material cited in the footnotes does not appear anywhere. I know there is a problem here because if I look at, for example - http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Albert_einstein - I see all the footnoted material shows up at the bottom of the page.

What can I do to make the first article come out with the footnoted material visible to readers?

how do I add an article?

How do I add a new article? Dcjjjbru (talk) 01:10, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Before creating an article, please search Wikipedia first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Please also review a few of our relevant policies and guidelines which all articles should comport with. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite to reliable sources which verify their content and must not contain unsourced, negative content about living people.
Articles must also demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please see our subject specific guidelines for people, bands and musicians, companies and organizations and web content and note that if you are closely associated with the subject, our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends against you creating the article.
If you still think an article is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Wikipedia:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. Quick Question

Are company's allowed to create wiki page informing the public about its history and background. Additionally, if the previous act is allowed, then may a direct link to the company webpage be permissable as well (we do not sell and of our products on our webpage, or online) Thanks for your time! 76.246.240.233 (talk) 01:12, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Writing an article about a company you are involved in is strongly discouraged. It creates a conflict of interest, which makes it very hard to write neutrally about the company, without advertising. If your company is truly notable, someone unaffiliated will come along and write an article about the company one day. AecisBrievenbus 01:16, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Help - what to do about a talk page comment

Help! I have just made a couple of changes to the Marion Jones page, and found that the last section of the talk page has the following heading: "She is probably the finest American athelete ever. I don't care if she used steroids. She is great & I am a 65 year old WHITE male. Don't take the medals she deserves. She did it all for the USA !& I luv her`" This seems to me to be irrelevant to the purposes of the article or the talk page. Does this constitute vandalism? Or, should this be just left alone? Or make a comment that wikipedia is for verifiable information, not opnion? Or...? EdChem (talk) 11:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Per WP:TALK, one of the few times it is appropriate to edit someone's comment on a talk page is when you are "Deleting material not relevant to improving the article". Note that it's not vandalism, since it was presumably not made with the intention of wrecking Wikipedia, but it's not really appropriate, either. Question about A new Wikipedia

I recently decided to make a wiki article but it got declined many times. It was about a guild in a video game. Why can't I make that? The article was Death Dragons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gumballs92 (talkcontribs) 19:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Most likely, notability was an issue. Wikipedia:Notability JayhawkBrandon (talk) 22:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Death Dragons was speedily deleted for not asserting importance/significance of the subject, per Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#A7. But it had a lot of other problems with Wikipedia's many policies and guidelines. It did not show notability of the subject. It was obviously written with a clear conflict of interest, saying "we" and "us" about Death Dragons. Note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. The article appeared very unencyclopedic. It was also promotional, unsourced, failed Wikipedia:Verifiability, and written like a guide. I'm guessing it would be hard to find sources considered reliable sources by Wikipedia. It could have been deleted for a number of reasons but some of them would require a slower deletion process. Game guild/clan articles are usually deleted quickly. Wikipedia is not the place to promote a game clan. Some other websites would probably welcome this type of content. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:50, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello from a newbie. I created a page and am having trouble getting the links to other articles to show up. Just to be clear, I am talking about the blue words and phrases that should be there. After I created the page, I observed a box stating that there were few or none of these links. I tried clicking on the "try this tool" link (terminology please - what is the name of this tool?) and a nice table of possible links showed up. However I had no way to verify the links so I made the page go away. Now I would like that page to appear again, but I don't know how. If I click "try this tool" again, I get very few links in the table. I would like the tool to start over and do a complete scan again. I hope my question is clear - how do I make this tool appear and is there a separate URL for it rather than having to click on the "try this tool" link? Also, I tried to find the help page on this - where is the help page? Many thanks.

WWriter (talk) 05:41, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Do you mean the "can we link it" tool? You can see the tool's result here as a permalink. Also, if you'd like to create a link to another article on Wikipedia, just add as a prefix and as a suffix. For example, if I want to link to the moon I'd type moon. Hope that helps! Yikes, there are no instructions on how to answer an answer (please consider this a suggestion for the top of the page). Hope I do this right.

Yes, thanks, the "can we link it" tool is what I am talking about. If I had looked at the link URL I would have noticed that it resides at another domain. I guess I should go to the author to get my questions answered. Basically, I need a command or button to "Start over, I blew it, give me all the options again." WWriter (talk) 06:35, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see. I don't think that is supported by that tool; you could try manually linking fields of interest, or asking another experienced editor to help you. I would but I have to sleep; maybe tomorrow, when I get home from school, I can have a look. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 06:55, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Fusion Cast/Low cost metal casting

A cheaper more environmental friendly way of casting metals. Requires no heat and as little as 30% metals. The process begins with a mold of the desired casting. Next a epoxy is mixed with the desired metals (metals depend on desired color) in powder form. the epoxy metal mix is then poured into the mold face down so the heavier metal can sink to the face. The mold then must be placed in a pressure chamber for 30 min at 40psi. once this is done a 12hour curing time is enough. The cured casting can simply polished, belted or sandblasted to bring out the metals shine! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4adambaker (talkcontribs) 19:15, 14 January 2008 (UTC) --4adambaker (talk) 19:18, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Notable Instruments

Hello, I'm plunking away on a page for Martie Maguire. Question: under "notable instruments" in the little box with the name, recording label, etc., what belongs and what does not? And, does it require referencing? Like, Natalie Maines is known to play acoustic guitar in concert, but no model of particular worth- would that even belong there? And in MY case, Maguire owns a 1920 Stradavarius violin, which I WOULD consider noteworthy- does it need referencing? Where? And what of her other instruments? Are they also notable? Thanks. --leahtwosaints (talk) 12:25, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

"Notable" is an interesting phrase to be used in that case, I would have thought "noteworthy" to be more appropriate, and that's how I would advise you to interpret it. The use of that violin does seem noteworthy, its a trademark thing, and I would go ahead and include it. It doesn't hurt to be WP:BOLD, and if it doesn't work out another editor can always come along and change it back.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 18:17, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm fairly new to Wikipedia and wanted to make sure I know policies regarding adding or removing links and how to contact someone to ask them why they remove the link.

I've read the policy regarding deleting pages. Is there a similar policy regarding deleting external links at the end of an entry? Are there strict criteria regarding what is and isn't suitable as an external link source?

Also, can you send personal messages to other Wikipedia users? I would like to ask the person who removed it why it was removed, but I'm not sure if I can do it in private. If we could discuss it without making a scene, that would probably be good. Globalistgirl (talk) 06:39, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Salvelinus alpinus

Unfortunately, the image associated with the 'Arctic charr' / 'Salvelinus alpinus Wiki reference is far from aesthetically appealing and I would like to offer a replacement image for the reference. As a doctoral student specializing in mercury contamination in arctic charr, I have many images to offer that are perhaps far more suitable.

I welcome the opportunity to contribute to Wikipedia and would love to submit such to you. There is no copyright associated with any of my images as they belong to me.

Please reply if you feel such and 'upgrade' is applicable. I would love to attach one such image in this document however I have had no such luck in my attempts, sorry.

Sincerely, JbrozJBroz (talk) 00:21, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia, Jbroz. You can upload images at Special:Upload. For the details of how to do this, see Wikipedia:Uploading images, specifically the section Wikipedia:Uploading images#How to upload a new image. Please do remember to add the right image copyright tag, since images with unclear copyright statuses may be deleted from Wikipedia. If you have uploaded an image and you want to make sure you have done everything correctly, you can leave a message on my user talk page, and I will help you out. AecisBrievenbus 00:42, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
The image used on Arctic char is in the public domain, so any replacement would have to be released under a free license at the very least. I note that you say "There is no copyright associated with any of my images as they belong to me.", but that is not exactly true. If by "belong" you mean that you took the photos, then they are copyrighted to you and so you would be the one to license them. If, on the other hand, someone else took the photo but you are in possession of it, then they are still copyrighted to the original photographer and he or she is the one who must be convinced to license them freely. Levi Strauss Article Vandalism

I want to know why someone named "Spylab" keeps deleting ALL my edits and content to the article on Levi Strauss. They keep asking for citations and references; the references are the two Federal court cases and their hearing transcripts detailed in the "References" section of the article. They are NOT off-topic; they are active court cases scheduled for trial starting in March, 2008. At least a dozen LS&Co senior management are facing a minimum of 10 to 20 years in a Federal prison. Please have someone contact me. This is important public record information.

X0000grb (talk) 16:50, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
From my look at what's been removed, the information you're including is completely uncited and unreferenced; I didn't see links to anything in the removed sections. It appears to be original research at best. Please read the reliable sources guidelines to understand what is acceptable. Essentially, if the case is covered by the media or other similar editorial sources, it would then likely be at least marginally notable and could be included in the article. At least, that's how I'd see this. Other opinions? (I'd also advise against calling something like this vandalism; Spylab is making good faith edits to the article, from what I see.) Watchlists

How can I get notified anytime someone makes a change on a particular page? I put a page on my watchlist but it's not notifying me when changes are made. Thanks. Mfrandsen (talk) 17:49, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Add the code found here to your monobook.js. Malinaccier Public (talk) 17:51, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
To expand on the above answer, it's some javascript that will display a message on Wikipedia when a page on your watchlist changes, to add it, navigate to Special:Mypage/monobook.js, and enter the text:
importScript('User:Ais523/watchlistnotifier.js');
As another (perhaps easier) alternative, you can get RSS or Atom feeds for the history of a particular page. Just go to the history tab of the page and click the RSS or Atom link in the "toolbox" frame on the left of the page. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask again if you have any more questions. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 17:59, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Dr Albert Schweitzer

I am researching Dr Albert Schweitzer's African expiditions in Zambia and Rhodesia. Can anyone give me info or Website where I can find same 155.239.178.148 (talk) 09:22, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

The Wikipedia article on Albert Schweitzer doesn't mention those expeditions. I did a Google search on "Albert Schweitzer" missionary expeditions zambia, which turns up a few likely results. I found this web page. It's extremely long because there is other stuff on it, but about half way down is a good biography of Albert Schweitzer. Hope this helps. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 17:59, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

How Do I Start a NEW page/article

I would like to start a page about a restaurant but i need some help on where to find the link to make it! Thanks!!

Mrb27 (talk) 17:44, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! To create an article, first check to see if one already exists: type the title of the page into the box on the left (under search) and click "GO." If the article does not exist, there will be a link to create the new article there.
I would suggest that you take a look at the Wikipedia:Tutorial article for a few tips and tricks of writing on wikipedia before tackling a new article. Best of luck and happy editing! --omtay38 17:59, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

How do I get a biographical article to alphabetize correctly in a category list

I've just started an article on St. Clair McKelway, and have added it to the category The New Yorker people. Unlike the other articles in that category, it's alphabetizing by S rather than M. Did I do something wrong in titling the article or is the St. (which I believe is in fact his first name) causing it not to be interpreted correctly? Thanks in advance! Marc Lacy Article

I created an article about Marcellus Lacy at http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Marc_Lacy A notice appeared saying it contained "peacock" language. I removed what I understood to be the inappropriate adjectives... and added citations but the "peacock" label is still on the page. Can I get it reviewed for removal of that label or is that permanent now? I couldn't find the answer on the FAQ page. Monica "Dr. mOe" Anderson (talk) 20:50, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Click 'edit this page' and you'll see that the first line of the article is the code . This creates the tag about peacock terms. If you think this tag is no longer valid, you can remove it yourself: no reviewing is required. Algebraist 00:57, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

never edited/ but called a vandal

I have only used wikipedia a few times to look up info, but I have never done any editing to your site. Today when I opened your website, I read that there were messages "for you". When I clicked on it, there were several messages warning me(?) not to vandalize various named articles, as if I had done so. The authors did not identify me in anyway, so are they confusing me with someone else who is vandalizing their articles? I just registered on wikipedia tonight (about 1/2 hour ago)Badlittlebucky (talk) 03:32, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Was your account logged in? You may have a dynamic IP address that was addressed to other vandals using your IP. bibliomaniac15 03:36, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
I think bibliomaniac must be right: looking at the history of your talk page shows no edits other than a welcome message. It's very common for people with shared IP addresses to get messages intended for other users of the IP. You can avoid the annoying messages by logging in to your account. :-) delldot talk 09:58, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Articles on Wikipedia are required to be licensed under the GFDL, while stuff on your own webpage will be assumed to be fully copyrighted in the absence of other information. Thus, for your work elsewhere to be added to Wikipedia, you have to first release it under the GFDL by adding a notice to that effect on your own webpage. Algebraist 04:11, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

SCBA and the ability to articulate the difference between a SCBA and a CBRN SCBA

SCBA = Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus in the United States market. As a professional who has been working with respirators for 25 years, both in the US DOD and US HHS, I have read the Wiki page on SCBA and would like to contribute to it. What is the easiest method? Viking6 (talk) 18:44, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, take a look at the Wikipedia:Introduction and the Wikipedia:Tutorial to become familiar with basic editing on Wikipedia. Given that the SCBA article is in your area of expertise, one of the guidelines you might want to note is that of no original research. Rather than relying entirely on the expertise of its contributors, Wikipedia is a secondary source of information, that should cite to reliable sources which verify their content. In simpler words, even if you know something to be true, it's preferred to cite sources for it so that other editors can verify the facts.
Having said that, one of the first and most important guidelines on Wikipedia is Be Bold! in editing. If you can improve something in any way, please do! Currently that article seems to be greatly lacking inline citations, and having them, as well as review by an expert, would be a huge improvement. The talk page of that article also lists a couple of points for improvement. If you have any more specific questions about editing articles please feel free to ask again, either here or at the Help Desk. Hope this helps. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 17:00, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Portal problems

Hi, I've just started Portal:Gender studies but I can't get the selected article info to show up, I get selected article/1, sa/3, etc - but no sa/2. Does anyone have an idea on how I've messed this up? Thanks. Phyesalis (talk) 22:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

I had a look at the portal, and found the reason when I looked at Special:Prefixindex?from=Portal:Gender studies, which lists the portal and all of its subpages. Notice that the only one of the Selected article pages that is there is Portal:Gender studies/Selected article/2. If you repeatedly purge the portal page, when the random number comes to selected article number 2, it appears just fine. But the other pages, if you created them, I can't find them. Make sure they're in the right place (see where number 2 is). If you only have the one selected article for the moment, move the page Portal:Gender studies/Selected article/2 to Portal:Gender studies/Selected article/1, then on the main portal page update the max= number on the following line from 5, to 1:

which will stop it trying to display other random articles which don't exist, as it is at the moment. Any more questions feel free to ask again. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 16:46, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Purple's Not Enough

Purple's Not Enough are an EMOOO band from Liverpool. They consist of Kyle Milson (Lead vocals, rhythm guitar and primary composer) Anthony Johnson (Bass, backing vocals and primary lyricist)Alan Unsworth (Lead guitar) and Some Dude (Drums).

Milson is known by fans to be the brains and the face of the band but Johnson rudely seems to take over interviews, pretend to be emo and is jealous of Milson's MUIESICAL ability. Unsworth writes solos a lot and claims his biggest influence is the heavy metal band Iron Maiden.

The rivalry between Johnson and Milson has appeared apparent whilst performing on stage while Milson will be waiting to start the next song, but Johnson will waste time talking to the crowd resulting in "bad blood" between the two.

Internet forums argue that with Milson being the official frontman of PNE, Johnson is a so-called "wannabe" de-facto leader of the band and will one day result in Milson leaving for better opportunities.

Purple's Not Enough are probably most famous for the song "I stand outside your house" which has now become an anthem for the GAY parade. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.215.48.230 (talk) 23:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, if you would like to create an article, please consider going to the page Wikipedia:Articles for creation, as it will not get reviewed from this help page. However, in its current form, the article may be declined for various reasons: As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite to independent, reliable sources which verify their content.
Articles must also demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please see our subject specific guidelines for bands and musicians.
Actually, as there are virtually no Google hits for "Purple's Not Enough", I'm not sure of its notability, and I personally reckon that a good old MySpace page would be much better for this band than a Wikipedia encyclopedia article, but if you have any more questions please feel free to ask again, or if you can demonstrate the band's notability, try Wikipedia:Articles for creation, or register an account so that you can create the page yourself. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 16:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Possible exception?

I'm interested in making a link contribution to the page Monomyth. I've already linked from my page, http://www.inspired-personal-development.com/monomyth.html , to this one, as my true experience is a perfect reflection of the monomyth.

The page I want to link to(as per above) does however require the user to submit an email address to access the story. This is for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it obviously adds to my database of people interested in this type of thing. Secondly, this is a very personal story that I'm not comfortable sharing unless people are serious about reading it.

This 'modern day monomyth' shows that mythology is not something only in our past. Mythological concepts are alive and well, and illustrate valuable journey's.. if we'll let them. This true story transcends our normal knowledge of the world, and will add nourishing food for thought in considering how to live our lives to greatest fulfillment.

I'm asking for permission to place a link to this page on the monomyth page, regardless of the fact that it requires the user to submit an email address (they can easily unsubscribe at any time). Thank you Cjc3 (talk) 03:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm not 100% sure on that link. I'd like another editor to give an opinion on it too. But it seems to me not to be in compliance with the external link guidelines. Wikipedia is not merely for the collection of personal web links, and if you really don't feel comfortable sharing the story without collecting an email address to add to your "database", then you shouldn't add the page to Wikipedia at all. You could try adding it anyway, but don't be surprised if another editor comes along some time and neatly clears out the external links, including your site. Nobody's qualified to "give you permission" though; Wikipedia works by consensus, not bureaucracy. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 17:14, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree 100% with anakin101. If the link requires registration - even a free registration - in order to be of use, than it is of no use to us according to the external links guidelines. Note that wikipedia uses "no follow" tags, so that links on wikipedia do not help your google or alexa rank. Pastordavid (talk) 18:01, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
From the relevant guideline: A site that requires registration or a subscription should not be linked unless the web site itself is the topic of the article. Pastordavid (talk) 18:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I have a major complaint about Channel 53's Cartoon Network! My children came up with some horrible words that we DO NOT use at home. For the longest time I could NOT figure out where these words were coming from, until one night when I went into the room to turn off the television set and actually heard those words coming from channel 53's Adult Swim! How do you allow this to be on a "childrens network?" PLEASE tell me this... Coalescence Theory–Strategic Management Planning (CT–SMP or SMP–CT) states:

"in a situation where entities, events, actions, reactions, interactions and other influences are interlinking, they will cluster together as a unique construct and then may form a system of unique constructs within a unique, three–dimensional space continuum that is ‘gooey–dough–like’ (Ronczka, 2006).

Guiding parameters:

Business profile: Use of strategic management; Only SMP processes; Inclusion of SMP process.

Management profile: Level and extent of technical management; Approval process.

Business information: Information use; Use to determine needs and issues; Performance indicators used.

Performance measures: How to determine future levels; Use of performance indicators.

Problem recognition: Problems diagnosed, Problems resolved •Forward planning: Opportunities identification; Direction next 10 years.

Engagement levels: Meeting of objectives determined; Change of direction determined.

Hypothesis:

Hypothesis 1: ‘Constructs may be formed by unique nexus entity, events, actions, reactions and interactions because of their connectivity, strength, and resilience' (Constructs emerge as unique).

Hypothesis 2: ‘Each construct has an internal structure that is unique to itself and distinct from any other construct’ (Constructs could stay unique).

Hypothesis 3: ‘Two or more unique constructs will form a unique system of constructs that will also be unique’(Constructs have bonds).

Hypothesis 4: ‘The resultant of the nexus entity, event, action, reactions and interactions will be the true direction of development of the unique construct or system of constructs’ (Might have a common vector).

Hypothesis 5: ‘The dominant nexus entity, event, action, reaction or interaction will be the closest to the centre of gravity of the construct or system’ (Strongest bond, at the pivot point).

Hypothesis 6: ‘Perception of change internally and externally to the construct or system will depend on the location of the observer’(Profile changes).

Hypothesis 7: ‘Collision will occur internal or external to a construct or system once its uniqueness is lost’ (Uniqueness decay likely).

SMP process elements:

(always as lessons learnt)

>> Intent >> Declaration >> Obligations >> Values >> Reviews >> Outcomes >> Directions >> Rules >> Orientation >> Procedures >> Controls.

The business principles:

Identified to achieve this reasoning to wisdom fusion require a business to:

•coordinate the direction of business as a capability to deliver. •tailor business continuum to ethos of management.

•deliver the best possible strategic outcomes and identify future potential.

•direct delivery of strategic capability, outcomes, and potential.

•focus on the causality and avoid ‘de Montaigne’ paradox of strategic businesses capability.

•drive corporate governance into strategic management planning. •scan, diagnostically evaluate and provide foresight of strategic needs and issues.

•direct foresight strategic outcomes and incorporate benchmarked controls.

•enable interventions to optimise temporal meshing and capability.

•determine parts of the business that can most effectively resolve needs and issues.

Given that you put the unreferenced tag in when you created the page[2], you can just take it out. I'd take out under construction as well. I haven't looked at the references to see how reliable they may be, but there's a different tag for that and I'd personally say that it's enough for now. Hello,

I need your help/advice on the following page: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Kelly_Services

We work direclty with Kelly and they are asking us to trouble shoot how we are able to have the "This article does not cite any references or sources. (April 2007)" header removed? This data was provided by Kelly directly. How would you like us to document?

Thank you

Dan 64.213.189.2 (talk) 21:08, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

The problem is that primary sources (Kelly and the people involved with it) are not acceptable as the main source of information on Wikipedia - this is partially to do with verifiability, and partially to do with no original research, but mostly because that's the way an encyclopedia works. What you need to do is find some secondary sources to back up the information - e.g. newspaper articles. Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 21:11, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Once you have those sources, then, you can cite them using, for example, some of the templates found here. Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 21:12, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Apostle Dr. M. K. Ntumy succeeded Prophet Martinson Kwadwo Yeboah as the youngest Chairman of the Church of Pentecost in 1998 and is currently serving his second term in office. In his 10 years of leadership, the church has seen significant growth in membership and infrastructure. He served as a missionary for the Church of Pentecost in Liberia at the beginning of the war in which many people died but was kept safe by the protection of God till his arrival back home in Ghana.

It appears that this editor intended to create a new article rather than ask a question here. He has started Rev Michael Kwabena Ntumy with this content. Sbowers3 (talk) 13:06, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Can any old editor add a template?

A quick example: I put in a fair amount of work into the article Baude Cordier, where there had been a "stub" template. For the reason I give in one of the revision summaries, there is not much more to say about him (a specialist composer in a specialist substyle of Medieval music) w/o getting into the absurd level of the five or so manuscript and style studies, all basically theoretical, only of interest to scholars. I erased the "stub" template.

Did I do wrong, treading where only higher-ups can tread? I do want to respect hierarchy of content control.

I've read about the "put the template on top if it's serious" vs. putting it below. Nonetheless, I can see how editors could abuse templates, skipping talk pages altogether and putting their own ideas front-and-center so the reader is sure to get his opinion. Did I do that as well?

Best, Shlishke (talk) 06:31, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

If you consider it to no longer be a stub, then you can legitimately remove the stub template. If you think other people might disagree, or might not see your reasoning (I see you gave it in your edit summary, but digging in the page history can be annoying), it might be a good idea to leave an explanation on the article talk page. You should in any case be ready to discuss if someone challenges your actions (which seems unlikely in this case). Algebraist 16:27, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Can I just go ahead

If I want to put new information, on a page I access on the internet, can I just go ahead and do so, or to I have to request permission first, I have wanted to contribute to various articles and find it easy to do so, with the edit options. May I just go ahead and write information about myself, or other in it? 195.158.85.41 (talk) 09:55, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Be bold! Sbowers3 (talk) 13:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, be bold in editing, but remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, which means that it has some standards for its content. If you want to add a new article, it must be verifiable using reliable sources; it must also hold to a neutral point of view and meet the minimum notability guidelines. So, I'd advise against writing an article on yourself or your friends, as there would be issues with the neutrality of it. Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 18:08, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Password Problems

I wanted a user name that was similiar to some elses, but was granted the use of the name. They sent me a new password, which i used to sign in and set a new password. However, now, it tells me my new password is wrong, and will not let me in. I just want to start creating my account! How can I fix this, thanx.68.4.217.21 (talk) 19:43, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

The account in question is CalActive (talk · contribs · account creation). If your new password isn't working, I've sent you a password reminder. Try using the password in that e-mail, and make sure caps lock isn't on when you set your new password again. Tra (Talk) 20:03, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Editing my own entry

I am a former United States Congressman. There is an entry about me on wikipedia and I have a question about editing it.

I am in the process of starting a blog about energy policy and use. Can you tell me when and if it would be appropriate to update my entry to include information regarding the existence (and URL) of the blog? It is unclear to me what the exact editing policy is regarding this type of edit. Gamyers (talk) 22:20, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I would suggest posting it to the talk page of the article in question (click on the "discussion" tab), rather than putting it in the article itself. That way, another editor (one without a conflict of interest) can link to it in the article if it seems appropriate. Pastordavid (talk) 22:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Linking dates

I have read the FAQ and instructions about dates and linking and still can not link the dates at: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/ICOS

Everytime I put as in january 5 2001, the brackets then appear in the text.

12.189.117.131 (talk) 17:11, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

When specifying dates for the accessdate= parameter on a reference, you need to specify the date in the format YYYY-MM-DD without any square brackets, and the template will make sure that it is linked correctly. It seems on that page, someone had changed the dates so that they were no longer formatted correctly. I have now changed them back. Tra (Talk) 17:28, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

George Uffner

I was able to find the name "george uffner" listed un another article on wikipedia. however, there is no information of historical facts listed for his name. it is only referenced by one of his associates. How can I contribute historical and factual information regarding this man and his famous history to wikipedia? He was my grandfather and I would like the facts of his life be recorded accurately and factually. thank you Xsivcrime (talk) 08:17, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. You can create an article yourself, but should be very certain that the person involved is notable enough to warrant an article before doing so. If you feel that George Uffner meets the guidelines listed in that link (and I have to say that a quick Google search turned up only a few web links about this person, so you'll need to source from paper sources such as books, magazines, old newspaper archives, etc.), then you can create an article by clicking on this red link: George Uffner and writing the article there. You should ensure that all information in the article is referenced by using reliable sources to back it up. Please do read through some other biographical articles of people who are in similar positions to see how to format the article properly; I'll also leave a welcome note on your talk page to give you some other important links. Finally, another warning: please take a look at our conflict of interest guidelines before starting the article, as your relationship to the subject could be considered a conflict. Hope this helps. Hello Pamela, and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia doesn't have an article about you at the moment, so rather than "linking" to your IMDB page, what you would need to do is actually create the article.
Please carefully read our guidelines on conflict of interest. If would like to create the article yourself, please review a few of our relevant policies and guidelines which all articles should comport with. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite to reliable sources which verify their content. See Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Wikipedia:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation.
As writing about oneself is discouraged, you might prefer to consider using Wikipedia:Articles for creation to submit the content, or make a request through Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biographies.
I hope these links will help to answer your request. If you have any more specific questions about creating an article please feel free to ask again. • Anakin (contribscomplaints) 19:20, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Uploading a photo

Hello,

I'm trying to upload a few private pictures in an article. blatant advertising - what a lawyer says

If you write an article on automobiles and under a classification of hybrid vehicles you list the hybrid vehicles manufactured by manufacture is that blanant advertising? Only an idiot would think so!

But apparently if there is an article on Chanty Music you can't list the names of the people living that renouned for that type of music. Only an idiot would think that is blatant advertising!

I did research in a real paper encycolopedia. Look up impressionist painters; are they advertising that people should buy the prints of the people listed there? Only an idiot would think so!

Conclusion the person who sends out blantant advertising notes is an idiot!

Your honor I rest my case and ask that this person be committed to a suitable institution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Halgai (talkcontribs) 05:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Your account has not made any edits about music and not received any notes about advertising so we don't know which situation you refer to. Thousands of editors may have stated on tens of thousands of pages that something was blatant advertising by using a template (for example Spam-warn) so it currently seems impossible for us to do anything in response to your post. wikifying article

Hi, My article on Brisbane punk rock has been tagged for Wikifying since August 2007. I am happy to do the changes but I am finding it hard to find to locate Wikipedia's points of contention. Could you please specify these points to me? Thanks. Dr.warhol (talk) 22:48, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

The box has a link to Category:Articles that need to be wikified. See point 4 about making links to other aticles. Brisbane punk rock currently has very few such links for a Wikipedia article. See more ways to make links at Help:Link#Wikilinks. One possible strategy to add links: 1) Add around terms which may have an article of interest, for example names of musicians and bands. 2) Click "Show preview". 3) If the links are red then there is no article and may be deleted, or you could try searching for an article with another name and consider a piped link. 4) Save page if you like the result, or go back to 1). PrimeHunter (talk) 23:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I have wikified a paragraph [3] but more could still be done there. Remember to check that a blue (meaning working) link goes to an appropriate page. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:38, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Creating Article Drafts

I have a long article that I want to write for Wikipedia. Is there a way to compose it during several editing sessions, without actually posting it on Wikipedia until it is finished?

The only way that I can think of to do this is to keep a working-draft copy on my PC to paste-it-into and copy-it out-of the Wikipedia editor without doing "Save Page". After I was finished, and the preview looked good, then I would "Save Page".

Is there a better way?

Lou (talk) 02:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

You can edit it at a subpage in your user space, for example, User:KudzuLou/My new draft if you are writing an article about an album called "My new draft", and once you are finished, move it to the mainspace (move it to My new draft). However, note that you cannot use fair use images while in your user space. Also, this way you would not be allowing people who know about the album "My new draft" to participate in the editing (someone else may create the article, and you would not be able to move your version there, but instead expand the existing version). Don't worry about saving a version that looks wrong, after all someone else can fix it (or you can fix it later). -- ReyBrujo (talk) 03:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) You can make a user subpage, for example at User:KudzuLou/Sandbox. Everybody are able to see it but nobody will probably care. It's not a part of the encyclopedia while it's in user space. Don't add categories for articles or use fair use images while it's there. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:19, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
When it's finished, you can either move it to a mainspace article or, if you are the only contributor so there are no GFDL concerns, copy the finished source to a new article. If you copy the source then you can leave the original with the edit history or request deletion with db-user. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:24, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I added a link to the page 'stencil graffiti'. My link pointed towards an in-depth tutorial on stencil graffiti which I wrote two years ago and re-wrote recently. The article has become known in the stencil community as 'The beginner's bible' and also serves as the beginner's tutorial on stencilrevolution.com.

The link to the article was 'www.onelegout.com/stencil_tutorial.html' and due to the domain name being the same as my username it was removed and blacklisted by a bot.

I am not making any money from my site, it has no adverts, and I have no product. I only seek to provide information for those who want to learn stencil art. Is there any way that I can appeal the blacklist?

Thanks, onelegout

Onelegout (talk) 15:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

It was not removed by a bot but by the human recent changes patroller Mayalld who used template messages to inform you quickly at your talk page. The first message had a link to our guidelines for external links which says at Wikipedia:External links#Advertising and conflicts of interest: "You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent, even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked. If the link is to a relevant and informative site that should otherwise be included, please consider mentioning it on the talk page and let neutral and independent Wikipedia editors decide whether to add it." The link has not been blacklisted and you can suggest adding it at Talk:Stencil graffiti. You can contact Mayalld (who followed our guidelines) at User talk:Mayalld.
