A work group of the Religion WikiProject

Welcome to the New religious movements work group of WikiProject Religion. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of new religious movements, cults, the New Age, and related topics, and the organization of information and articles on these topics. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions and various resources; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians interested in the topic. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

Goals

edit

This group has as its goals to create, improve, and maintain articles relating to new religious movements in a neutral, non-biased, atmosphere of cooperation.

Scope

edit

The scope of this group is articles relating to new religious movements, which should be included in the Category:New religious movements and Category:Cults, or their subcategories. This group acknowledges and is grateful for the efforts of other existing WikiProjects and groups, and will devote its attention primarily to those topics which do not clearly fall within the scope of other religion projects.

  3. Maunus (talk · contribs)
  4. Jayen466 (talk · contribs) (my interests are (1) ensuring that scholarly literature, where available, is used preferentially – much is available in google books these days, I have access to the questia online library, and I also have a few standard reference works on my bookshelf; (2) discouraging the use of primary sources in advocacy for or against NRMs. 17:02, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Europe22 (talk · contribs) My interests : religious groups in francophone countries. 21:00, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  6. ResidentAnthropologist (talk · contribs)- Interested in Anti-cult movement, numerous NRM's. 2. Has Access to Nova Religio online archive
  7. Dexter73 (talk · contribs)- Interested in NRMs, especially Eastern. I have access to many scholarly journals and articles.Dexter73 (talk) 20:14, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  8. fultonchain (talk · contribs)- Closely following the development of Marshall Vian Summers's NRM, "The New Message from God". Interested in how it compares to other NRM and religions. 14:23, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  9. JEMead (talk · contribs) - Metaphysics, Esotericism, Theology, Theosophy, Physics
  10. Keithbob (talk · contribs)
  11. Dshafer (talk · contribs) - Interested primarily in new religious movements of the 20th Century and beyond, particularly those with an Eastern (Vedic) approach and new discoveries about the teachings of the Christ. 11:52, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  12. Shawnsie (talk · contribs) Am quite interested in many of the NRMs. I like and have participated in many whose teachings originated in the Far East. Am especially interested in one known as The Holy Order of Mans, a movement/group with elements of Rosicrucian and far Eastern teachings, which started in 1968 and lasted until the late 1980's when a schism occurred between those wanting to convert to the Orthodox Church of America and those who didn't. Those who felt loyalty to the original forms of the Order went on to form many modern offshoot groups, such as the Science of Man, Gnostic Order of Christ, Order of Christ Sopia, The American Temple, The Servants of the Way! Recently a new group of original Order priests and teachers has reincorporated the Holy Order of Mans name, and begun a new association based on the teachings and practices of the old Holy Order of Mans. 1:15, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
  13. Taxee (talk · contribs) - Interested in Christian NRM's, particularly those that derive from Pentecostalism. I also have an extensive theological library for researching. 22:40, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  14. Gndd108 (talk · contribs) - Interested in expanding upon the articles on the Hindu reform movements.
  15. Lisapollison (talk · contribs) - Anthropologist, Linguist & Folklorist with experience in documenting the beliefs of NRMs. I don't like the word "Cult" when it is used as a scare tactic and believe adults have the right to believe in whatever happy-hoo-hoo that helps them sleep at night so long as they make an informed choice and aren't hurting anyone.
  16. Rigidbodyratking (talk · contribs) - Interested in helping to expand articles relating to NRMs and various Religious groups. Degree in Religious Studies.
  17. FULBERT (talk · contribs) (I am interested in working on Paganism, Modern Paganisms, and wherever the need it greatest!) 01:44, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  18. SMBisbee (talk · contribs) - adding content to stubs 16:46, 29 may 2019 (UTC)
  19. Gwenhope (talk · contribs) - Overlap between LGBTQ and NRM, specifically Modern Pagan sects. 12:34, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  20. Albert8879 (talk · contribs) - I am a cult awareness advocate and interested in Large Group Awareness Training particularly Landmark Worldwide and Scientology, as I was a participant in Landmarks programs for five years. Also highlighting the dangers of thought reform techniques and behaviour modification techniques on neurodivergent and vulnerable people. I am interested in bringing more awareness to what cults actually are as opposed to the one-sided sensationalist and inaccurate depictions that populate in the media. I also have knowledge of groups like One Taste who practiced Orgasmic Meditation (now renamed to Om Foundation). I am a member of the International Cultic Studies Association so have access to their journals also.
  21. Jacquesparker0 (talk · contribs) - I am interested in the Branch Davidians, Unification Church, Scientology, and other large NRMs. I am also interested in the Anti-cult movement particularly in Britain and America. Metaphysical religion and UFO religions are a burgeoning interest as well. 21:33, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
  22. TheMarkRogers (talk · contribs) I'm interested in philosophy of mind, metaphysics, comparative religion, psychology, sociology, and anthropology. I like expanding stubs, improving readability and grammar, and finding needed citations 22:46, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  23. PARAKANYAA (talk · contribs) I'm interested in NRMs as they relate to crime and criminology. Also book articles. PARAKANYAA 22:37, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

edit
  • Please use {{WikiProject Religion|NRM=yes}} as the assessment banner, following the information provided on that page.
  • We should have at least one navigation template for each of the NRMs we deal with which have more than one extant article dealing with them, as well as navigation templates for the subject of NRMs in general and for any of the various "types" of NRMs, like cargo cults, UFO religions, etc. These templates should all be listed below.
