SOMArts, the California Digital Library and Art Practical present a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon in conjunction with The Black Woman is God exhibition to raise the online visibility of Black women artists and challenge the gaps in art history that erase or minimize Black women’s contributions as artists, activists and social change-makers. Everyone is welcome to join this hands-on workshop to learn how to edit Wikipedia and add your own articles highlighting the significance of artists who are too often marginalized in contemporary art.

Veteran Wikipedia editor and arts writer Dorothy Santos will be on hand to train new Wikipedia editors in this fun and collaborative event. Organizers will also provide supporting research for creating new content, including adding to the Wikipedia article featuring The Black Woman is God as well as creating new articles highlighting the curators and exhibiting artists. Please join us in SOMArts’ gallery to build a more accessible Wikipedia that is truly reflective of the diversity of artists and activists who inspire us all.

  2. Notes and citation materials for new articles you want to add to Wikipedia. If you aren’t sure what you want to work on, that’s fine too! We’ll provide content ideas for new editors to add new articles or edit existing content.
