Guidance on Creating a New Wikipedia Page and Initiating Content Creation
editDear Wikipedia Support Team, I am reaching out to seek guidance on creating a new Wikipedia page and commencing the process of drafting content. I am eager to contribute to the Wikipedia community by adding accurate and informative content about my organization. Could you please provide me with a step-by-step guide on how to create a new Wikipedia page? I am particularly interested in understanding the process of drafting content, ensuring neutrality, and adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. Additionally, I would appreciate any insights or best practices for structuring the content, citing reliable sources, and collaborating with other Wikipedia editors to refine the page. The topic I intend to write about is Lakshya Digital - Lakshya Digital is an Indian Gaming Process Outsourcing Company headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana, India. It holds significance within its domain and has a noteworthy impact that I believe should be documented on Wikipedia. Thank you for your time and assistance. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to Wikipedia's vast repository of knowledge and look forward to your guidance. Best regards,
Trina Chakraborty Manager- Marketing Communications Lakshya Digital LDGurgaon (talk) 05:38, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- LDGurgaon, if this company really "has a noteworthy impact", then I'd expect editors unrelated to it (editors with no conflict of interest) would want to create an article about it. The best advice I can give you is "Read and digest 'Wikipedia:When your boss tells you to edit Wikipedia'" and "Do not attempt to create an article about your own company". -- Hoary (talk) 06:54, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- If you are indeed "eager to contribute to the Wikipedia community", then I suggest you forget about anything related to your company, and begin editing articles that interst you: see Help:Introduction. ColinFine (talk) 10:42, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Blank user script
editIf I were to create a blank user script under my user page prefix, would it be deleted after a while? (e.g. User:FooBarBaz/Mopped.js with no code) 8 foo.bar("baz"); 05:46, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I don't know the answer to your question, but your WP:SIGNATURE is pushing the limits of acceptability. Bazza (talk) 08:53, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I only need people who actually know the answer. foobarbaz 09:26, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'd never say never but there's currently no reason in policy to think that's likely to happen. -- zzuuzz (talk) 10:16, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

Referencing errors on Montgomery Riverfront Brawl
editReference help requested. I don't understand the referencing error I made or what it is. Thanks Thanks, Teenyplayspop (talk) 07:54, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- In that diff, Teenyplayspop, you added <ref>{{Cite web |title= |url=https://www.npr.org/2023/08/07/1192460342/montgomery-riverfront-brawl}}</ref>. You should have added the title and the website (and preferably the date, the author's name, and the access date as well). See Template:Cite web/doc. -- Hoary (talk) 08:19, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Indeed. For most citations, a URL is the least important part of the refernce, merely a convenience for the reader. The important parts are the author, publisher, date, and title. ColinFine (talk) 10:48, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Naming - or not naming - the perpetrators of crimes
editI’d very much appreciate information on Wikipedia’s policies/guidance regarding the naming of perpetrators of crimes in articles. My main interest is writing articles about historic buildings. Two of the buildings I’m interested in have been subject to serious arson attacks. In both cases, individuals have been convicted of arson and have served custodial sentences. They have been publicly named, in published court documents and in the media, which have also carried details of their crimes and of their sentences. But they are not notable for anything beyond those criminal acts.
So - what do Wikipedia’s policies/guidelines require/recommend in relation to naming, or not naming, the individuals in the articles about the buildings they damaged? To be clear, there is no intention to write articles about the individuals themselves. I’d be most grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of any published policies/guidance. I have worked through BLP and its associated pages including Notability - Criminal acts, but couldn’t find anything directly applicable to this case, although I may well have missed it as there are a lot of pages. KJP1 (talk) 09:42, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- If someone was convicted of a crime in a court of law, that can be discussed in an article as such. Certainly it is notable that a historic building was subject to arson, and anyone convicted of such a crime should be mentioned as part of that history. 331dot (talk) 09:56, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- That's helpful and accords with my own view. However, I have seen other editors take a different stance - naming is inappropriate/undue - and cite BLP in support of this. Is there actually anything in BLP and its associated guidance which covers this situation? KJP1 (talk) 10:38, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- You could look at WP:NPF, which may be as close as you'll get. WP:BLPNAME also mentions 'significant value'. I'd differ a bit from 331dot's statement: it's not that anyone should be mentioned, it's that they can be mentioned. I can imagine situations where the naming someone convicted of a crime would be at least unnecessary. -- zzuuzz (talk) 10:50, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you - that's also a helpful perspective and I'd absolutely agree that it should be case-specific. One would be very cautious, for example, of naming a child, even if they were over the age of criminal responsibility (10 in the UK). KJP1 (talk) 11:21, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- There was a lengthy but ultimately inconclusive discussion on the BLP Talk page back in April. You might find it helpful for the various viewpoints raised by the issue. Wikipedia talk:Biographies of living persons/Archive 52#BLPCRIME is useless
- Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 14:25, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I made my statement on the (faulty) assumption that the arson of the historic building was not recent; I concur with zzuuzz. 331dot (talk) 15:39, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

britannica . com
editCan the Britannica website be cited as a reference w.r.t any science or math articles? If not, should it be removed from wherever it has been used previously? Ex: Function (mathematics) Jeraxmoira (talk) 10:35, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- There's not a blanket "yes", or "no". See the essay (not policy) WP:USETERTIARY. ColinFine (talk) 10:52, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

Admin help
editcould an admin take a look at the Talk page to Firehose of falsehood, please? Civility issue. Thanks Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 13:26, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I don't know if it helps, but I've taken a look and removed a small amount of text. Whether that's sufficient is an open question. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:35, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

Tool for mobile edits
editHi guys - my mind has gone a little blank; any ideas if there is a tool (like we see in xtools for automated edits) to see those edits made from a mobile device? I'd like to know percentages over time, ideally Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:54, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of a tool, but this is something we can do pretty easily over at WP:RAQ if you're after an occasional look for curiosity's sake. (It's less practical if it's something you'd need to use repeatedly, like to try to correlate sockpuppets or what have you.) Proof of concept. —Cryptic 17:31, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Cryptic, that looks like exactly what I was looking for - presumably the 0 rows are the non-mobile edits, and the others are mobile edits? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:09, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- It was, er, the other way around. Despite the label. I was in a bit of a rush and pasted the wrong draft in. I've updated the query in-place, and made it more readable; did you need it for a different user, or different timescales, or...? —Cryptic 23:23, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- No, just having the query is fine for now. Thanks for your help! Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 05:56, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

Strange link result
editI typed "Velocitas 1897" in the searchbox and it showed as bolded. However when I clicked on it, it linked to the sport section of the city of Groningen where this club isn't even mentioned. I think it would be better to not show a link at all. Dutchy45 (talk) 17:56, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- What you have run into here is a redirect from the article about the sports team to the sports section of Groningen, possibly because the person who created the redirect didn't think there was enough information about the sports team to create a new article. However, in these cases, there should be information about said topic at the target, and there clearly is not. How do we fix this? A few ways 1) If you can find information about Velocitas 1897 out there <waves hand vaguely at the rest of the world> and want to add a few short sentences to the section about the team, do that and cite your sources (Wikipedia is better when it has more information after all). 2) If there is a lot of information about the sports team, you may want to turn the redirect into a stand-alone article. See here to decide if that is a good idea. You probably also want to still add a sentence or two about the team. 3) If you can't find any good information about the team anywhere, then it may be appropriate to delete the redirect. See Redirects for discussion for info on how to do that. I hope that helps! --Jayron32 18:05, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Fix comma category
editPlease look at this revision of the sandbox. Why is it using the template {{Fix comma category}}? If you click "Pages transcluded onto the current version of this page", you can see that this template is being transcluded. Kk.urban (talk) 18:34, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Kk.urban: {{Infobox settlement}} uses {{Fix comma category}} nine times. It's also transcluded if you merely write
{{Infobox settlement}}
with no parameters. Just ignore it. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:10, 9 August 2023 (UTC)- @PrimeHunter What is the point of this template? Kk.urban (talk) 23:11, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Kk.urban: "Just ignore it" was a way to say "You don't have to worry about it and I prefer to not spend more time on it." But OK, here we go. {{Infobox settlement}} uses
{{formatnum:}}
from mw:Help:Magic words#Formatting to insert commas in some multi-digit numbers in parameters, per MOS:DIGITS. Sometimes there will also be a maintenance category with a year in there. Years should not be written with a comma, and it breaks category names like Category:Articles with unsourced statements from August 2023 if it's changed to Category:Articles with unsourced statements from August 2,023. The template detects and removes commas which were inserted into years in such category names. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:37, 9 August 2023 (UTC)- Thank you. Kk.urban (talk) 23:44, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

Highway junction list missing mile marker signs
editI remember there being a box before a highway junction stating that it has one or more missing mile markers. Is there a template for that, and if not, what was used there instead? Bubby33 (talk) 19:46, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'm unclear what this has to do with Wikipedia. The term "missing mile marker" appears nowhere in Wikipedia. If this pertains to a Wikipedia article, please identify it and clarify your question. Shantavira|feed me 08:35, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- I solved it! The template is the Mileposts template, which is {{Mileposts}} in an article. Bubby33 (talk) 21:19, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Bubby33: Try asking at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject_U.S._Roads, perhaps someone there will know RudolfRed (talk) 22:37, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
