editReference help requested
editSo sorry to have to ask, but I'm having a problem solving the references on this page??? Can anyone provide me with some direction? Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jacqueline C. Moorby (talk • contribs) 07:13, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Do you refer to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Nicola Majocchi (photographer)? Wikipedia has millions of pages, please do tell us which one you mean when asking for help. In the meantime, see referencing for beginners. DES (talk) 15:21, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Mess I just did while editing on Friends (season 10)
editHello kind helpers ! I wanted to add Danny DeVito (as Joe the Stripper, episode 11)) in the § "Guest Stars" of the article , but it seems that after my action the list overlapped on the text of "Recurring stars" . Can you mend it ? So sorry for the blunder, & thanks a lot beforehand for your help Arapaima (talk) 08:30, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- If you click on the "History" tab at the top of the article you can then have the option to look at differences for each edit. From that you will see that you deleted {{col-end}} from the end of one section, so I've added it back in for you. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:41, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Zephaniah Kingsley Sr. not coming up when searching 'Zephaniah Kingsley'
editHello, Why is it that my newly created page 'Zephaniah Kingsley Sr.' is not coming up under the Wikipedia search drop down list when I search for 'Zephaniah Kingsley'? Please help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emanuel Kingsley (talk • contribs) 09:48, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Because it takes a while for the search results to catch up; It may take up to 48 hours. --Mdann52talk to me! 11:06, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Should there be inline citation in the lead?
editKind regards, Lesion (talk) 11:23, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- see WP:LEAD - if the content is non controversial and appropriately footnoted in the body, it does not need to be cited in the lead. if it is controversial claim or a direct quote, it does need to be cited. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 11:26, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- WP:LEADCITE is the specific section. CTF83! 11:28, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, Lesion (talk) 12:48, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
"Registering" my company on Wiki
editHi,
I am a director of a company. Would it be reasonable, or against policy, to post the below to Wiki? Given they are all factual statements, and its fairly basic, I hope it allowable? Please advise. Thanks in advance.
[advert redacted] — Preceding unsigned comment added by XanderMatthew (talk • contribs) 12:25, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- No, you should not create or edit content about your company because you have a conflict of interest. Wikipedia is not a directory. Subjects merit a stand alone article when independent, reliable, third party sources have covered the subject in a non-trivial manner. If such coverage in reliable sources exists for your company, you may make a request at WP:RA. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:47, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Also, this is Wikipedia, not Wiki. There may well be other Wikis where you could post your company's listing. AndrewWTaylor (talk)
- There is a basic principle of life here: if a place exists where you can advertise your business for free, that place is flooded with ads for bogus diet pills, male anatomy enhancement pills, female bust enlargement creams, etc., etc., and nobody reads it. If you see place that looks like it might allow you to advertise for free and it isn't flooded with spam ads, somebody is stopping the spammers and they will stop you too. The solution? Either pay for your ads or provide real value to your customers and you will get genuine word-of-mouth advertising. Or both. --Guy Macon (talk) 22:07, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
copyrights
editHi I am writing a book and would like to show the royal coat of arms (England) Can I place this coat of arms directly into my book that will be offered for sale via Abbott Publishing and if yes do I have to supply a copyright statement? Please advise Richard VanderPloeg http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Royal_Arms_of_England Union with Scotland and Ireland http://up.wiki.x.io/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/98/Royal_Coat_of_Arms_of_the_United_Kingdom.svg/170px-Royal_Coat_of_Arms_of_the_United_Kingdom.svg.png — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.36.1.197 (talk) 15:02, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- The terms of the copyright release are given at File:Royal_Coat_of_Arms_of_the_United_Kingdom.svg. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:07, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- The key sentence is: "The use of such symbols is restricted in many countries." Perhaps you should contact your publisher. ~:71.20.250.51 (talk) 18:54, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Visibility new wikipediapage
editTwo weeks ago I created a new wikipedia page. I can't find it, it isn't visible yet. I am wondering how long it takes before a new page can be seen by everyone. Maybe you can tell me. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.97.18.64 (talk) 15:44, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Are you referring to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Haagsche Zwaan? If so, it is as visible as it is supposed to be. It also would need considerable work before it is ready for mainspace. Drafts in the articles for creation space are not indexed by Google or other robots-compliant search engines. DES (talk) 15:59, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) You will find your contributions by clicking on the "Contributions" link at the tp of the Wikipedia window, taking you to Special:Contributions/95.97.18.64. If you are talking about Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Haagsche Zwaan, you haven't yet submitted it for review, but there is no point in doing so yet as it would be declined. You need to provide evidence of the subject's notability, so please read about notability, verifiability, and referencing. - --David Biddulph (talk) 16:05, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- (e/c) It always helps if you tell us which page you are talking about - is it Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Haagsche Zwaan?
If so, one of the reasons it is not visible, is that you did not submit it for review. However, before you do that, you need to show that it is "notable" in Wikipedia's terms, and has received "significant coverage, in reliable sources, that are independent of the subject." Currently the only reference is to the building's own web-site, which is clearly not independent.
Without such coverage, your article will be rejected - for a basic explanation of these terms, please see WP:42 Arjayay (talk) 16:06, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
drop down lists
editthere used to be a space in your preference where you could eliminate the drop down list when making a search. I see it's been eliminated. How do I get rid of the drop down list now? I can't stand it and don't need them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mohpat (talk • contribs) 17:57, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- @Mohpat: There's a discussion about this at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 121#AJAX suggestions now mandatory?. Apparently the solution is to edit Special:MyPage/common.css and add the following:
.suggestions { max-height: 0; overflow: hidden; }
posting a new article
editI have an article with references to post but I cannot follow the instructions to post it. Perhaps someone can create an article skeleton on this topic and I can then edit it to add the content? Is this possible?

Working edit counters
editIs there a working edit counter that shows "new pages" (pages I have created). I know there used to be one but so many of those are no longer functioning. Rmhermen (talk) 19:01, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Go to your contributions, go to the end of the page, click on "Articles created". Ta da!! Dismas|(talk) 19:17, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- I've never gotten a response back from that the few times I've tried to use it. RJFJR (talk) 19:55, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'm sorry. Without any specificity, I didn't know which tool you had tried. The last time this question came up, the counter worked for me. But you seem to be right. This time I haven't received a response back and it's been several dozen seconds. Dismas|(talk) 20:03, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Robert C Fulford DO
editI tried to correct a mistake and it was reversed. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rajivly (talk • contribs) 19:27, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- If you go to Robert C. Fulford and look at the history tab you can see who made the change and what edit summary they left. In this case the edit summary just says "(Reverted 1 good faith edit by Rajivly using STiki (Mistake? Report it.))" but it does tell you who made the change and you could ask on that editor's talk page at User talk:Epicgenius. RJFJR (talk) 19:35, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) It seems that it was reverted because you did not provide reliable sources for this change. Notice that there are two source citations after the original statement. These are books that I can't find right now, but they probably support the statement. If you have a source that says that these two medical practices are different, feel free to make the change again and add the source. (Referencing for beginners and introduction to referencing can help if you aren't sure how to add the source.) If there is still an issue, you can start a discussion on the talk page of the article. --Anon126 (talk - contribs) 19:37, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Image licence question
editFile:Chromino.jpg This image I recently posted to WikiMedia Commons was tagged with "image licence missing". Looks like I forgot to add a licence to the image. How do I add one afterwards? JIP | Talk 20:24, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- First, you will need to go to the the image's page on Commons. Click the image, and there will be a box that reads "This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons. Information from its description page there is shown below." Then click "its description page". There you can edit the page to update the information. If you took the photo yourself, you can decide what license you want for it. See copyright tags on Commons to find the right tag. --Anon126 (talk - contribs) 20:45, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Incorrect name for Madeline Island Museum
editThe article titled Madeline Island Historical Museum, should be correctly titled Madeline Island Museum - see the museum's website for verification that this is the correct name. Google also had the incorrect name in their places search response and this has been requested to be updated too. There is another museum just down the road run by the Madeline Island Historical Preservation Association, so this article can lead to confusion for tourists visiting the island! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iknowabit (talk • contribs) 21:03, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Done. I have moved the page to the new name. --Anon126 (talk - contribs) 21:14, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
