BIshop Ford High School

edit

As of April 13, 2014. Bishop Ford had an emergency meeting and voted unanimous to close it doors on June 30, 2014. This is after all the finals , state and regent exams is taken. All the alma maters are deeply sadden to hear the FALCONS have flown the coop so fast. The school have 450 students as right now when it should be high as 1300. This is 75% dropped of enrollment. The building is 50 years old and there is a $1 million dollars in repair. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.187.221.95 (talk) 00:07, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing you want us to add that to the article page. I have found a source confirming that, so I'll add a note on the article page. CTF83! 02:02, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Need help navigating policy for article on company. Issues: BLP-esque material, promotional and close to source

edit

Judging by the content and the username (PTAS2012) it seems the Pacific Title Archives entry is being edited by an account that at the very least looks like it may have some connection to the company and could be an employee editing the article. I started to remove some of the peacock-y language until I reached the section on the current management. The section is essentially 4 or 5 mini bios on the executives. I do not know much about BLP other than it is a big no-no. Between the BLP and paid editing concerns it is obvious I am out of my element as far as WP policy goes. I wanted to see if someone with more experience could take a look at the article. In addition to the BLP and peacock terms the inclusion of giant head shots of each executive make the article look like a yearbook. Thanks in advance. I've reverted to the last non-puffy version I could see. I don't know if this was best, though, so others may want to weigh in. - Purplewowies (talk) 03:25, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have weighed in. We often see someone trying to promote a company by creating a Wikipedia article about it, and then having problems establishing notability. Here, someone has had used the cleverer method of finding an existing but little-read article, and subverting it to be about his own company, thereby bypassing the need to establish notability. (Something similar happened a few years ago, where an article about a disused USAF base in Texas was subverted by the company that was redeveloping the site.) Where do I go to add images so that I can use them for visual information in certain topics? I did find one uploader but it will not load up for me correctly. I have attempted to try using universal image tags, but this site does not accept them, so I conclude that uploading is unfortunately the only way to attach images to any article I am going over. Wonderworldamusementpark (talk) 04:18, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you mean by "universal image tags" but I think you mean that you're trying to use images that are offsite. You're correct in that that does not work. In order to be used in articles, images must be either here on the English Wikipedia or on Wikimedia Commons. By uploading them to Commons, they would be available to all the different languages that Wikipedia is available in. In order to upload the images to Commons, please go to Commons:Main Page and click on the Upload button at the top right. In order to just upload them here at the English Wikipedia, you would go to Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. Note: You only need to upload them to one or the other, not both. Once uploaded, then you can place them in articles. Dismas|(talk) 05:30, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the assistance. Wonderworldamusementpark (talk) 06:08, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IDMMMD (talk) 04:33, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In order to have an article in this encyclopedia, an organization must be notable. By that, we mean that it should be recognized by people outside the organization as worthy of mention in books, magazines, news organizations, etc. For a non-profit, WP:CORP has the specific requirements for a non-profit organization. Additionally, I've left a welcome message on your talk page with more links and information about Wikipedia and writing articles here. Dismas|(talk) 05:25, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fouad Chaaban

edit

Dear Sirs,

i have made the below page, for someone Mr. Fouad Chaaban, two months ago and it still did not appear in the search box.

I have contacted Mr. Mathew and he told me that he has converted the page from a userpage to something else by using this code: {AFC submission|||ts=20140415061606|u=Fouad Chaaban|ns=4} where he has submitted on my behalf. however, he said i will receive an email regarding this but i actually did not receive any.

I would really appreciate your help with this if you could tell me how can i make it appear in the search box since this article is 100% my own work.

This is the URL of the page if it helps you:

https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User:Fouad_Chaaban

Thank you for your help in advance.

Regards, Fouad Chaaban (talk) 06:16, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

in looking at your contributions I am not seeing anything that looks like it was submitted to the Articles for Creation process, all I am seeing is a rather promotional resume that is not supported by any reliably published third party sources which are required for a stand alone article that is now sitting as your user page. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 06:34, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The above template would need {{ }}, not { }. If you created the page as an article about someone else, you are not allowed to use that person's name as your username. If you would like to remain a Wikipedia editor, and you are not Fouad Chaaban, you need to follow the directions at WP:CHU. If you are he, you are strongly discouraged from writing your own article.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 21:30, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Table issues

edit

When try to clean-up the calendar WikiProject Formula One uses on it's season articles, and specifically to try and clean-up the different line-breaks in the text that occur when viewing the articles in the mobile version of the articles. Another user came to the conclusion that the only way to prevent the cell contents from breaking unaesthetically over more than two lines was to put the flags present in the table into a separate column. Another user raised the justified concern that the heading for that column would create confusion. Therefore I searched for ways to keep the flags column in the table, but hide the heading at the same time and the best I got is this:

At first glance this looks perfect, however when viewed on the mobile version of the site, the flags column and its contents gets crushed entirely making it utterly unreadable. I'm clueless as to what is causing this and on how to prevent this from happening. I was hoping that someone could help us out here. Tvx1 (talk) 08:27, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The issue will be solved by following WP:MOSFLAG. the usage in this table does not meet the criteria for when flags should be used. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 08:37, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That might solve the issue for this particular case. But there many more examples for where these flags are used 100% procent within MOS:Flags's guidelines, such as the driver's table, where the problem will still persist. So this is not a helpful answer to solve this technical issue in general. Tvx1 (talk) 08:43, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Tables that wide do not work well on most mobile devices anyway. The right side gets cut off altogether and it is not possible to scroll across (at least on my mobile that's the case). You might try WP:VPT for better technical help on this. SpinningSpark 23:27, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About the deleted page "Capri Cavalli"

edit

I keep seeing this page being deleted due to "the fact that the person is insignificant", but I do see a lot of less famous pornstars(at least less famous than Capri Cavalli) having their Wikipedia pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.152.187.110 (talk) 08:36, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

1)In Wikipedia notability is based upon whether third party reliable sources have found the subject worthy of discussion, not whether its "famous". 2) WP:OTHERCRAP. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 08:39, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, the notability criteria can be found at WP:PORNBIO. And an effort is being made by at least one editor to purge all the lesser known porn star bios. Dismas|(talk) 08:59, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Corbett

edit

Hello,

I edited a page on the former British politician Richard Corbett on Saturday. I can't see the edit any more - why is this? It was a summary of his voting record when he was a MEP in the European Parliament. Do you need to be a registered user to make edits? There is no lock symbol on the page. Richard Corbett

Many thanks, Miriam. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.130.157.99 (talk) 10:58, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you are referring to this edit it was reverted by an unregistered user with the edit summary "Undid revision 603874757 which was a very odd selection of votes to establish a "voting record", possibly posted by a campaigning organisation". SpinningSpark 11:08, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And if you don't accept that user's reversion, the thing to do now is to open a discussion on the article's talk page Talk:Richard Corbett, and try to achieve consensus. (I changed your URL to a wikilink above) --ColinFine (talk) 12:22, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way for me to have the related changes function ignore articles on dates and years (such as April 15 and 2014)? Thank you in advance. ---Sluzzelin talk 21:58, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe so, though there might be a tool that can do something similar. I can't think of such a tool off the top of my head, however, so perhaps not. Most articles should not contain links to date articles anyway. --NYKevin 23:48, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
