The ISBN number has not yet been issued and it's currently being published. Should I indicate the relevant page numbers? Hi, Peter here again. What does Ukexpat mean. How does anyone prove that a book is a reliable source? We are happy to provide information but we have found many conflicting sources on Wikipedia ourselves. We are either using original documents or we are quoting from other Wikipedia references. PDF file I found on a Google search
editThe 9th result in this google search is a pdf document called MANUEL QUIROGA, O VIOLINISTA ESQUECIDO. I can open it, read it, all good.
I want to use it as a citation for Manuel Quiroga (violinist), but can't see how to reference it, as it does not have a web address.

Don't know where to start

I am a chemistry PhD candidate at a state university interested in contributing to science-related articles. I understand the basic principals of editing (I've IP edited many times), but I wouldn't know where to begin with, say, making a new page for a molecule that doesn't have an entry. Unable to move pages

Micahel A Potter article rejected twice

This article has been written on behalf of my CEO, Mr Potter, who is a global HR and Management consultant.
The article has been rejected twice due to insufficient evidence of the subject's notability. I have read your page on referencing etc but I still don't understand what is there in my article that wikipedia does not like? Could you please kindly advise me on what I can do to improve my page?

- I'm not commenting on the referencing concerns of the article draft itself, but I very strongly recommend that you read our policy about conflicts of interest, which lay out clear guidelines in regards to editing an article on the subject's behalf, especially when it is done on a professional (thus likely remunerated) basis. :) Salvidrim! ✉ 09:44, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- First, two thirds of the article has no inline citations at all. Secondly, most of the citations simply show that he has spoken at conferences: I have not looked at the sources, but I doubt whether most of them say more than that he was a speaker. Thirdly half the article is about the details of his sporting career as a boy: apart from being unreferenced, most of this information is simply inappropriate in an encyclopaedia article, since it does not appear to have anything to do with why he is notable (if he is). But the main thing is that the article does not contain the citations to significant coverage of the topic in multiple reliable sources independent of the subject which constitute notability for Wikipedia articles. Adding a page of a young author

I am new with Wikipedia. I want to add a page on a very young author who was nominated for the Golden quill award. I have created it in my sandbox but how do I publish and add the page to Wikipedia?

- In its current form the page would be deleted from article mainspace almost immediately; there are several issues you need to address before it can be "published".
- The draft has no sources. You need to provide at least two reliable, independent sources that talk about Khosla in depth.
- The formatting needs to be corrected; other editors can help you with this, but you would do well to read up on the layout guidelines and the basic markup commands.
- The article contains information that is not verified (e.g. sales figures, award nominations). Again, you need to provide sources proving these claims.
- Once these issues have been dealt with, the most sensible thing to do would be to submit the page to Articles for creation; to do this, place the code
{{AFC submission}}

- We don't have a template named "use my dates", only {{use mdy dates}} and {{use dmy dates}}. You can read about them by clicking those links. Help with title article
editHello, i need help with an article about the university i am working at. I was currently assigned to update the wiki page but i noticed a typo in the articles title from the previous creator. However i don't see option about setting that right, i read somewhere that i need an account older than 4 days and more than 10 edits on articles before i can have the option of editing articles title.
Since this a as an urgent matter can you help me about setting this right, the article in question is this: University for Information Science and Technology "St. Paul The Apostole"
the typo in question is the "o" in "Apostole" wich should be "Apostle".

Mysterious Cite error message on Nelson Mandela

- That sounds odd. In which browser does it become more narrow when you increase [4] the width? For me in Firefox, it looked fine before but now it goes off the right side. - I'm confused. First you said the red box went out of the screen to the right side before. Now you say it was shorter than the other boxes before. How wide are the other boxes for you? For me the other boxes filled the screen both before and after. The red box went from being narrower than the screen to wider than the screen. The width is set in absolute pixels instead of a percentage. That means the width relative to the screen will vary wildly between users. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:38, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Costa Concordia disaster
editHello, I am planning to break-out the wreck recovery and wreck site remediation on Costa Concordia disaster (see Talk:Costa Concordia disaster), since there will undoubtedly be an explosion of editing once the salvage crew starts to attempt to roll the wreck and re-float it. However, some years ago, when I merged two parallel (duplicate) articles, one editor vociferously accused me of copyright violation (I did a cut-and-paste from the duplicate article into the primary one, clean-up edit of the merged primary article and created a re-direct from the duplicate to the primary). I was baffled, since this is all within Wikipedia. I imagine that he/she was concerned about attribution of prior edits. Is this an issue? Is there any basis for concern about copyright violation in this situation? More specifically, is there any way to accomplish a cleavage of the wreck recovery and site remediation section while transferring past edit history? I doubt this is possible since past history is for the whole page, but maybe there is a way to transfer edit histories for the sections that are moved? I assume that a cut-and-paste operation would accomplish this, unless there is a more sophisticated tool or protocol. Please advise if there any rules or procedures that I should be aware of.

- Cut-and-paste is not permitted, because the edit history is lost. What is done in a case such as this (and this requires the assistance of an admin) is that the old version is moved to the new name and deleted from the old version; then the old version is restored under the old name. The result is two articles with different names, each with an identical edit history, for proper attribution. (And yes, there is a copyright issue, because a cut-and-paste loses all those edits and the attributions thereof; while the process I'm describing does not.) --Orange Mike | Talk 19:39, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

We can't don't typically split the history during a normal article split, but we can use the templates to provide attribution. The template syntax is tricky, so expect a bit of trial and error. Correcting info
editI cannot seem to correct some information, nor can I email Wikipedia using the address provided; here is the email I tried to send with the correction:
The page lists Bonnie's first appearance as 1969; that is not correct. Bonnie was on an episode of The High Chaparral in 1968. She played the daughter of a half-breed Indian, played by Robert Loggia. Here is an excerpt from The High Chaparral web page: Character Highlights: Good episode for Mano fans since we get to see him without a shirt here, if only briefly. There is more tension here between Mano and Buck than usual with Buck taking an uncharacteristically harsh stand against Tina as a "breed". Mano is charming as usual, but also particularly sweet and compassionate. There is an unintentionally humorous scene where Rebel (Buck’s horse) very nearly wrecks the scene by head butting Mano while he is delivering his lines. Cameron Mitchell saves the scene by ignoring it and getting Henry’s line out of him anyway. Robert Loggia does an excellent job as the evil Chio and a young Bonnie Bedelia is also very convincing as the intense but confused Tina.

Fundamental Improvement Needed in Wikipedia Article on term "Mulatto"

The term "Mulatto", was originated by Spanish Arab conquerors in South America, as a derogatory term used to refer to people born from sexual reproduction between Spanish Arab conquerors, Black Negro slaves, and Indigenous Indians. The term is derived from the term "mule",an animal which is a combination of a horse and a donkey. The term was intended by it's Spanish Arab Conqueror creators, as a derogatory, and comedic term, comparing the people born from sexual reproduction between Spanish Arab conquerors, Black Negro slaves, and Indigenous Indians, to animals, with a clear intention that these people should be considered less than human, or of a class of people that are not considered to be full humans and therefore should not have full participation and full legal rights in society. There is a parallel between the term "mulatto" and the term "nigger". The terms are equally derogatory.
Additionally, the term "mulatto", carries with it a connotation of slavery, a connotation of deprivation of human rights and legal rights, and a subordinate status in society.
I feel your current article does not reflect this strongly enough. It is not immediately clear from reading the article that the term "mulatto" is a derogatory term, carrying connotations of slavery, deprivation of human rights and legal rights, and a subordinate status in society. The term has an equivalent derogatory connotation to the term "nigger", and this should be clear in your article.

- What we certainly should not do is to enter into protracted discussion here about sources such as this one, which offers an interesting comparison; when Britain ruled India, Anglo-Indian marriages were actually encouraged by the British East India Company, who "would even pay a sum for every child born of these cross-cultural unions". A century later, it was Indians who stigmatised and stereotyped the offspring, not the British (or so the article implies). --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:15, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
