Open Publication and Research Impact: increasing the reach of your findings outside academia
A free drop-in Zoom webinar for Ageing Well, Healthier Lives, and University of Otago research support/library staff
How do researchers increase the reach and impact of their findings, especially outside of traditional academic channels? The debate is currently focussed on open access vs paywalled publication, and how to deal with the media. But other tools exist. This presentation covered practical tips for open publication, Creative Commons licensing and copyright policies, retaining your photo copyrights when publishing, ORCID settings, image and figure distribution through Wikimedia Commons, and leveraging Wikipedia and its volunteer editors for readership. edit(Note: Wikidata generally uses the full name as given in author lists on publications; Wikipedia will use the most-commonly-referred-by name—for example, the one in a university staff listing. The Scholia link shows the number of publications currently in Wikidata and properly linked to that person's Wikidata ID.)
