Avoiding the destructive effects of divisive or inflammatory behavior is the over arching general principle which forms the basis of a number of fundamental policies including Wikipedia:No personal attacks, Wikipedia:Assume good faith, Wikipedia:Civility, and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view.
