Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic
Programming Language(s): Perl
Function Summary: Announce Wikipedia 0.7 selections to WikiProjects
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): One time run
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details:
The next Wikipedia DVD release is version 0.7. An automatic selection of 30,000 articles has been made. The task is to announce this selection to the ~1,300 WikiProjects that participate in the assessment system, so they can copyedit and fix up their articles before the DVD is pressed. The complete selection data is here on toolserver.
For this task, the bot will leave one message for each WikiProject, in a new section of the project's talk page. The bot will use this text (or a later version) as a template. It will use this list of project talk pages. It will not create any talk pages that don't already exist; the redlinks on that list will be handled manually.

- Trial complete; see Special:Contributions/SelectionBot. I learned that I need to resolve redirects in the list of project homepages linked above. The code does that now. I will do another manual run of about 25 projects, to further test the code, before making the rest of the full run. But I am going to wait for at least 12 hours for comments first. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:24, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- I made a second trial of 23 articles, and again looked them all over by hand. I didn't notice any problems at all. I double-checked the URI encoding for Wikipedia talk:WikiProject R&B and Soul Music worked as it should. I haven't heard any complaints since the first trial. I'm ready to move forward with the full announcement. — Carl (CBM · talk) 20:46, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
