Wikipedia:Almanac
This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
This page in a nutshell: Wikipedia is not an almanac per se, because it is an encyclopedia, but it does contain much almanac-like information. |
According to Wikipedia:Five pillars: "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia: It combines many features of general and specialized encyclopedias, almanacs, and gazetteers."
As the world's most extensive encyclopedia, Wikipedia goes far beyond the scope of an almanac. But it may contain any or all of the information you might find in an almanac, and then some. So, Wikipedia is not exclusively an almanac, but it may contain data formatted in almanac style.
Cf. WP:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information (a policy that forbids excessive listings of statistics) and WP:Manual of Style/Trivia sections.
