Life and career

edit

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria,[1] Viktor Antonov moved to Paris at age 17.

Working for the cinema and video game industries, he became well known for his work as art director on Half-Life 2. He worked afterwards for Arkane Studios then became design supervisor for ZeniMax Media after the release of Dishonored.

In 2010 he wrote and designed the graphic novel The Colony: A Structure Celebrating the Triumphs of Technology, a magic realist narrative with his own accompanying visuals.

Antonov died in 2025, at the age of 52.[2] The news emerged from a screenshot of an Instagram Story attributed to Half-Life's lead writer, Marc Laidlaw. In his message, Laidlaw described Antonov as a "visionary," calling him "brilliant and original" and noting that he "made everything he worked on better".[3]
